What's up at 103-3 the app

103.3 has been just static ever since Wednesday the day they started... Anyone know if they are having problems or was it some sort of joke? Why announce before they were ready? I asked but of course they won't give a straight answer.

You're not the only one who's curious. I expect they may be having trouble with KTFM HD2. Either that or they launched before the translator was ready for broadcasting.

Now would be a great time for a competitor to launch alternative and steal their fire. LOL

Their twitter account says, "they plan to launch soon." The App launched last week but something must of happened soon after the launch.

I had wondered the same as well. Was listening to the app on my phone and still playing alternative. It has to be a signal issue.

iHeart could do that to either 93.3 or 105.7 but I'd hate to see an Edge/Buzz format in SA knowing how horrible they sound in Dallas and Houston. Maybe an "Alt" format like in LA?

Edit as of 9:30pm, App is down even on their app. It stopped with "Animal" by Neon Trees at 9:14pm and started playing mexican music and then cutting to Jack FM's feed. I hope they don't sign off...

Well I was wondering, because contrary to popular belief, there is no 103-3 in San Antonio, Texas. None, zero, zilch, goose egg, nada. Well done, Alpha. Big hype, small return. If it's an internet station, so be it, but San Antonians don't take kindly to being jerked around. If K277CX wasn't ready for launch, they should've never promoted it.

Of course, what would you expect? Alpha was supposed to swoop in and right all the wrongs with the station down in Karnes City. That still hasn't happened and now this debacle. Alpha is rapidly becoming the 21st century version of the "not ready for primetime players".

Get it together Alpha. This is no better than when Border was running the "cluster of despair".

Well put, Purple.

Seems they've recently filed something - think it's to change the type of antenna being used for the translator. http://fccinfo.com/CMDProEngine.php?sCurrentService=FM&tabSearchType=Appl&sAppIDNumber=1670968

My opinion still stands that they weren't ready. Should have waited. Oh well...
Was their hurried launch due to The App being discovered and posted about here? I wonder... Probably serves as a good reminder of who's reading these forums, if what I guess is true.

I don't think we will hear from 103-3 again until this app gets approved. Who knows how long that will take. Hurry up FCC I want my alternative station back. Wish they would have applied to up the power though to 250 watts (max for a translator) if that were possible for this particular one. Signal didn't make it too well over in my area when it was on. Still, it was receivable enough to listen.

I agree with your theory.

No guessing about it. I have firsthand knowledge of a very powerful official that has text to audio software on the phone who listens to all the Texas posts every morning on the way to work. And yeah, this will be listened to, too. Good morning. Have a great day!

I sent a message on the App's Facebook page and they mentioned that they are off the air and is promoting to listen online or download the app. Wonder if iHeart is thinking of launching an "Alt" format here.

If only it came in better on the NW side. It was in my presets at first but as I can't usually get a good signal at my house, I deleted it. Still will tune it in though when I can receive it.

Wonder how KBPA bob FM feels about 103.3 taking over San antonio?

I was in SA over the weekend and listened to this station all weekend. I gotta say it sounded good and the playlist kicks ass!

I always thought the 2 down effected more then the 2 up did.

I'm not an engineer. So, I couldn't tell you that for sure. However, I know my own reception of the old KEYI 103.5 started having problems as soon as the translator at 103.7 signed on. I could still get KEYI in the car, but my reception everywhere else was pretty much gone. Before that translator signed on, I could even get it on a Walkman.

If 103.3 causes Bob to lose listeners in San Antonio, the station can complain to the FCC and potentially get it shut down.
