KJJZ Flips to Classic Rock

Jazz station KJJZ 102.3 in the Palm Springs market switched from Jazz back to classic Rock as Q-102 I think a call letter change is soon to happen.

Additional discussion of the KJJZ flip is in this thread on the Smooth Jazz board.

FCC's CDBS says the new calls, assigned today, are KRHQ.

I just can't believe it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can not believe that they would do this to us. There are so many followers here in the desert. I have been here for over 18 years and when friends came from LA they would say God You Guys have the best station. All we have is the Wave. I do not understand what would make someone change the type of music to classic rock when we have to many classic rock stations. You were the only station that we could get away from all the rap a crap, hip hop, and all the others to just listen to something that would take us to are happy place ...Why, Why,Why???????????? I hate it.PLEASE PLEASE,PLEASE,BRING BACK OUR SMOOTH JAZZ.
A grateful past listener,

YOU MADE A BIG MISTAKE....PLEASE FIX IT.

Mr. Magee,

First, it is unlikely that a post on this message board is even going to be noticed by the decision makers at the station. You would have a much better chance of being heard (not that I think they will change their minds) if you contacted the station directly and asked to speak with the station's General Manager.

Second, you may wish to read the other thread linked in the post above yours for an explanation of why this happened and why they aren't likely to change their minds.

Third, a piece of advice from someone who has programmed and consulted a lot of radio stations. Telling a station in all capital letters "YOU MADE A BIG MISTAKE" usually results in the station disregarding everything else you have to say.

KJZZ was down to 18th in 25-54, and had lost 2/3 of its billings over the last 6 years due to decreasing ratings and a very old listener base.

There was no way they could continue operating at what were probably money-losing levels

Missing the real KJJZ

We have a home in Indian Wells and I keep up with Desert activities with KJJZ...

I do understand that this station cannot keep up with the heavy metal or top pop stations BUT there will be many of us simply switching to pandora or some other streaming service...

Once this is lost it is most likely gone forever But I for one will miss KJJZ....

The day of the switch KJJZ morning jock Fitz went to 103.9 and that station droped hot ac for a bizaar soft format that includes a little smooth jazz.
