33 stations total, including the Grays Harbor radio group (KDUX, KXRO, KXXK and KWOK). Purchase price not disclosed.

Will be interesting to see if they make any changes - like moving them to more state-of-the-art studios.

Morris also owns KKRV-104.7 Wenatchee, KWLN-103.3 Wilson Creek and KWIQ-100.5 in Moses Lake. Wonder what changes are in store for those three stations as well...

Perhaps I am wrong, but didn't KWOK at one time exist as a popular top 40 radio station in Grays Harbour?

They could probably stand to build a new facility. If I recall, their current facility is much like a trailer (or maybe a prefab home) on the outskirts of town. Its probably not hard to find, as the AM tower is right on site.

KWOK began life as KHOK, then KGHO. A number of great jocks worked at that station, in the little building in Hoquiam. The tower is still there but it' s only used by John and Brian Spencer for their LPFM station, which has the KGHO-LP calls.

KWOK diplexes on one of the KXRO towers in South Aberdeen. Currently it is a sports talk station.

Since I'm somewhat familiar with the Grays Harbor market, I strongly suspect that there will be no upgrades.

Based on your signature, I'd say you're a little more than "somewhat familiar" with the market. :)

The culture at Morris and Alpha couldn't be more opposite. Plus Alpha is just a few hours' drive from Aberdeen. Given that, could you see other "renovations" coming to the trailer on Coolidge Road?

For some reason, this deal has been "re-announced" today on several trade sites. Maybe there were some negotiation issues - at any rate, it is moving ahead. Watch out, Grays Harbor - the big dog's movin' in!

I'm ready, got my kilocycle in high gear...

Seriously, I don't think Alpha wanted this market any more than Billy Morris did. I love it here, I was born and raised in Southwest Washington, and I'm here for keeps. The Morris stations will go from one out-of-state ownership to another out-of-state ownership...

You're probably right about not wanting the stations, even though the new "out of state owner" as noted above is a little closer. I'm not expecting much if anything to change there.
