KFI Sunday Morning

I noticed that Shannon Farron was given the the Sunday am show. Has anyone listen to the show? It seems that the JV teM is being given a shot.

I listened for a few minutes last week and thought the show was awful.

And I really hate to say that because I think Shannon is terrific on the John & Ken show. She "gets" what they do and contributes just enough to make it even more entertaining. She has a great sense of humor and her observations are spot on.

But the Sunday morning show seems like an attempt to turn her into a shock jock. I know it isn't fair to judge a show after listening for only a few minutes, but this was so bad that's all the time I could give it.

I've no idea as to Shannon's prior hosting experience, but it takes time to develop a show from scratch. The surprising thing is that a Los Angeles Class 1A station with several sister stations is doing this.

6:00 a on Sunday is hardly prime time, so let's give her and KFI a break. . The slot was formerly that of the long-running Jesus Christ show (which has moved to mid-morning and replaced a program previously anchored by various weekday KFI news team members.).

I agree. Talk radio generally does a terrible job of developing new talent. KFI is giving some of its role players a chance to develop while actually on air on a meaningful stick (if not, of course, at a meaningful time). You never know, the next Bill Handel could be right there in house and just needs some time to grow. I applaud them.

Now if they could just take the bits out of John and Ken's mouths so they can actually say something relevant again...

Listen tomorrow morning and see if you think Shannon is following her instincts or doing what she's told. I suspect the latter.

I just listened to the first hour of this morning's show and while perhaps "awful" is too strong a word, I'd say it's just uninspiring. Pretty much a generic talk show that attempts to push the envelop of good taste whenever possible.

Shannon is so good at coming up with great one-liners that John and Ken can work off of it's a shame the magic doesn't translate to her ability as a host.

I'm not used to hearing her address serious subjects without being sarcastic or joking around. Her delivery sounds forced. I won't say awful, but it was hard to force myself to listen to the second hour to hear if it got better.

She told John & Ken on air last week that she will tell them if and when she gets tired of doing Sunday mornings.

She is a 49ers season ticket holder and travels to some of their away games too. This Sunday show will put a stop to that.

Just my $0.02

Nobody could do a better job than Gary Hoffmann as host of the KFI Sunday Morning News. I seldom missed his "Nine News Nuggets" feature: "I can stay up till 9 o'clock!" "Seven! Seven! Seven!" "We start bombing in five minutes." "Pick two."..."One-two. Yowch!" "There are two people in that room!" "One ringy-dingy." "We're number one, Ben. That's all that counts."

I have no idea why KFI started using different hosts each Sunday, nor do I know why the program was moved to 6 AM. Shannon Farren has been with KFI since July of 2005. She's done reports on serious subjects such as race relations and sex trafficking...but she's also done stories about barefoot runners and men with large penises. Maybe she's being groomed to replace Conway some day. :)

It should be noted that Gary Hoffman on Sunday was part of the same basic sleep and time cycle as his weekday stint with the Handel program. It was theretofore a snap to sound fresh on Sunday. Shannon at 6';00 am is the flip side of the day from her time with John and Ken. It could be that shifting from sunset to sunrise for a single program every week might be a bit trying.

As for starting at 6:00 rather than 9:00 I suspect it was essentially a re positioning of the Jesus Christ show as the Saturday fork report added an hour.. Neil Saavadra does both programs.

I watch this video every now and then to see them muzzled. Imagine J&K being schooled by a Black Lebian! I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when Robin told them they were going to have to apologize on air to a Black Lesbian. I heard from a friend of a friend that old John blew a gasket!
