Gnash-FM 94.1 is an epic ratings disaster

In the just released February numbers, the station reached a new low water mark.

Since flipping away from Great Country in favor of Gnash, the station has lost more than 40% of its AQH share.

They now join sister station 96Rock in the sub-2 share club.

A loop of dogs barking would earning bigger ratings on that Class B stick than the current programming.

When is Cumulus going to realize that this product simply isn't going to work in most top 50 markets and either add more local content or abandon the "Gnash" brand in markets such as Cincinnati completely?

My gut feeling is either 96.5 or 94.1 will be scrapped in favor of Classic Hip-Hop at some point in the not too distant future.

BTW, what on earth is wrong with 96Rock's audio chain? It sounded miserable early yesterday evening.

That frequency was a curse on it akin to the Chicago Cubs. NOTHING has worked there for any length of time. Every once in a great while, it burps into repectable territory, then back to the bottom of the deck. If they had exclusive, verifiable predictions of the coming end of the world and a sizable promotions budget, they'd still only pull a five share.

It doesn't help that country music stinks out loud right now. Half of UBE's audience has gone to the Fox and GRR, looking for something they can stand.

It seems that dial spot in destined to be an FM black hole.

What the OP failed to mention is that Country ratings are down across the board in just about all markets. I'm not defending the format and especially not Cumulus' execution, but even WUBE, the Country leader in Cinci is dealing with falling ratings. NASH, properly executed, can work, but putting sales executives in charge of NASH stations, instead of those who can successfully program a Country format, as Cumulus has done in NYC, isn't a likely path to success.

I agree with this; the format is in a lull right now after riding a tidal wave last spring & summer.

Every format Cumulus has tried on 94.1 has been a ratings failure, but even by 94.1's low standards, the current 1.8 share is awful.

Great Country 94.1 was just starting to find some moderate ratings success when the plug was pulled.

Cumulus could pull the plug now on NASH and go Classic Hip Hop, like they have in Indy, before Radio One does it on 100.3. Country was tried on 94.1 years ago and it did not work then either. NASH reminds me of what Salem does with Conservative Talk. No ratings, but they have a philosophy they push as a Christian company. This national country format is going to work in Cincinnati ratings wise and maybe that not their goal.

no I like nash fm 94.1 I want them to stay 100.3 can go screw it

There already is a classic hip hop in the market, The Beat 102.3

This does not portend well for Hank 101.5 in Dayton which recently switched to Alpha's Country Icon format. And they have a really poor signal in parts of the Dayton market. Plus K99 is running a big money promotion and TV ads while Hank just lies there with liners and what seems to be a small universe of Country Icon tunes.

I must be getting old. I remember when most of the classic country on Hank was young country on Y96. I love the imaging and listen quite a bit from Fairfield, with the help of a big antenna!
