100-7 KKHT...in glorious stereo.

What's going on over @ The Word? Noticed the stereo light is on today, which I can't recollect being the case since Salem bought the facility from Univision and flipped "Orbita" to "The Word". Lightning striking twice in Houston?

Now, don't be teasing us like this, Chuck. We radio geeks notice the little details like a stereo pilot lighting up where it's not usually, and most will recall that Mediafrog caught the last Houston station to return to stereo, which flipped formats just days later.

So, you getting that 1,000 song oldies playlist cued up?

Don't I wish. Although, I have enough music to get it started. There is a big problem with the transmitter site in Devers. The problem also affects 93.3. KKHT is operation from the back-up site in Baytown.

That explains it. I knew 100-7 seemed a bit stronger over here this morning. Thanks for the quick reply, Chuck. KKHT sounds great, coming from the backup site. Obviously not the same signal reach as the primary, but it sure sounds more crisp and clean in and around DT Houston than it typically does in mono from Devers.

You have to wonder what the ratings are on that thing. I think a flip would be in order.

Agreed. Let's hear you flip KKHT to "Radio Luz", Chuck. That should get the blood really pumping over on Fry Rd, lol.

Good to see you back, Bruce. I've been lost w/o you...

Took a break because I was really sick. Not too concerned about the flame war. If they make it Spanish language, it will be as much of a dead spot on the dial as it is today on my radio.

The station just barely shows in the ratings, and not every book either. But they are not subscribed, as the business model is not ratings based. Salem is a profitable, well run company and their stations tend to be nicely profitable.

Sincerely sorry to hear about your illness, Bruce. Glad you've gotten well enough to rejoin the ranks again and hope your complete.recovery comes quickly for you.

With that said, and returning us back to the station on which this topic was created, I wonder, what would you do to make KKHT more successful than it currently is? Continuing the current Christian teaching format, or moving into the secular realm and ditching the mission of the ministry, that up to this point, has been quite a tool for delivering the message of Jesus Christ to a large portion of southeast Texas within KKHT's coverage area? You're upset with KSBJ for not playing Christian rock, and now you think The Word is "a dead spot" on the dial. It makes me wonder if you are truly that miserable in your own life, or if you just get a tickle out of stoppin' by the ol' radio board and stirrin' a pot or two, pardon the native Texan lingo.

BY the way, Purple. Don't know if you check your box, but I sent you a Private Message...

Sorry about your not feeling well, Bruce. I hope you get better. Bruce said it was a dead spot on HIS radio, just like my former radio home, KILT is a dead spot on my radio. That's his belief and his preference. Why have a preset for something you are not going to listen to. As far as KKHT is concerned, as David pointed out, it is very profitable. Therefore, there is no format changer in the foreseeable future.

KSBJ is making amends by putting NGEN on the air for people like me. I don't know who was responsible for the reprehensible treatment of Buddy Holiday - but I hope whoever it is has left the station. No Christian station should treat its founder and visionary like that. At least they asked for prayer for him during his recent health problem.

As for 100.7 reaching people for Christ, it somebody needs it I am glad it is there for them. But my experience with Christian radio is that it reaches the already saved, and doesn't reach anybody new for Christ. Dubious to me whether that is worth it.

I don't have to like every station on the dial. I am not enthusiastic about some formats, I am about others. So is everybody else. Stations that I don't listen to aren't on presets, I don't listen to them, I am not going to get enthusiastic about them being there, and I am going to hope that they flip to something I am interested in. How in the name of sanity does that make me miserable in my own life? Because I am not. I have my own tastes, and am not shy about stating what they are. Neither are other people on the board.

That doesn't Bruce. Coming to a radio board to cry about it endlessly does. In the name of sanity, or otherwise. My previous post opened the door and invited you in to tell the tale of how you could improve KKHT to be more than just "a dead spot" on the dial. I know of several hundred people alone that would disagree with you. Now, you made the statement, so back it up. Or will you simply ignore my request as you have so many others when they take you to task for one of your wild postings.

What makes The Word's programming worthless to you? How would you make it more appealing to YOU? Your quick to complain and judge, and you say you've programmed successful radio stations before, so now you have the opportunity to lay out your vision for what would make you tune in to 100-7 on a regular basis. To top it off, you have the Operations Manager for the station actively engaged in this discussion, and perhaps you might have a good idea that he could implement to make yours and other potential listeners experiences more enjoyable and less likely to be a source of your complaints. Wouldn't want to be stuck in the 60's like KHCB, y'know.

The floor is yours, Bruce.

KKHT was in mono when I checked it while driving around 1pm. Signal seems weaker than usual, so perhaps still from the backup site; however tropo is kicking up so it could be that. KQBU also seemed weaker, but tropo could explain that as well.

Wonder what the trouble at Devers was/is? Affecting both stations, perhaps a transmission line/waveguide fried?

I think KKHT is coming at us from Devers again, with reduced power. This isn't at all what I heard yesterday. No stereo, weaker signal.

Problem is it cant stay on the aux...its licensed for the (now FORMER CC) Devers tower...and thus must resume there in 15/30 days unless a STA is filed....103.7 has an aux on the same tower (At the Exxon Mobil refinery in Baytown; owned by American)...and I think 97.5 may as well

When they go to the aux, the signals are gone in BPT...AND 100.7's COL of Lumberton (SO MUCH for providing local service to the COL...what a crock...the AUXs can be anywhere in the 1mV contour range but cannot exceed it....94.5 KSOC in DFW had its aux north of I635 and 35 interchange on a 500 ft tower...definitely better bldg penetration than the 2000 ft full C 50 miles to the north...but not covering the COL when it was on!)....

OH well.....and the wheels on the bus go round and round...
