FOX needs to pull the plug on American Idol

It seems that the ratings for American Idol are getting worse. More people have stopped watching the shows after so many years. Their audience are rapidly changing, plus every season there is always a male winner. Yet, even last season's winner Caleb Johnson hasn't even made it to the Billboard charts. Also, this is my first season of not watching this show after thirteen seasons because I am tired of seeing the males winning the competition almost every season and judges giving negative reviews on their female counterparts, even after the performed a right song that fits within their category!

When was the last time we have a successful female contestant? Way back in '05 when Carrie Underwood won it all. Her winning single "Inside Your Heaven" made it to the Billboard charts, debuting at number 1. Since then, she rose to fame as a successful country artist and has won 11 ACMs, 12 ACAs, 8, AMAs, 16 Billboard Music Awards, 7 Grammys, and many other awards. She was also featured during the opening segment of NBC's Sunday Night Football and was the main star of NBC's "The Sound of Music Live!", which achieved high ratings

Besides Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia, Carrie Underwood, and Jordin Sparks, only one other female winner never achieved as much success as her female predecessors, and that was Candice Glover from season 13.

As far as the judging panel is concerned, I find it uncomfortable when the judges always give mixed reviews to the female finalists, but give their standing ovations to the male counterparts after each and every performance. My guess is that the show is geared towards the younger female audience who are mostly into pop music, especially boy bands.(Remember in season 11 when all four girls were eliminated in consecutive weeks? That was the season where Scotty McCreery was the winner).

In any case, this show needs to be cancelled. It's not even worth it considering now they are suffering with bad ratings, and plus the winners don't even make it past their post-Idol success.

You remind me of Jul

Jennifer Hudson, who didn't even win, gained a great deal of success as a result of her American Idol time. Diana DeGarmo had some as well. I thought Kristy Lee Cook would do well, but she didn't.

In any case, every show runs its course and Idol has been around a long time. Couple that with dilution of the talent pool because of competing shows, and maybe it is time to retire it. Fox will likely keep it as long as the financial returns make sense because I doubt they have anything good to replace it with.

Scotty McCreery was the season 10 winner. That season also gave us a female singer that had some success the next year. Haley Reinhart, who was the third place finisher,
had a song out called "Free" in 2012, but what is she doing nowadays?
