High school sports on your local station

While back in Eastern Washington this Easter, I noticed SWX (an Inland Northwest sports network that airs on subchannels) has started airing high school baseball and softball. This suprised me, since I'd never seen high school baseball on a local station at all. Do any stations in your area broadcast high school sports, and which teams and sports?

KBJR-DT2 (Duluth, MN) is a My Network affiliate (also on cable on channel 9)
They show high school football and basketball from the Duluth area schools (also the neighboring towns like Cloquet, Hermantown and Proctor)
They also have all the home games of University of Minnesota Duluth football and hockey teams

also WDIO (ABC) has the section finals of high school hockey. 7A (small schools) one night and 7AA the next night.

Now if we are talking HS tourneys too
WDIO-DT2 (MeTV) has the football, girls & boys basketball and girls hockey tourney while WDIO has the boys

in Minneapolis KSTC 45 (Independent...co owned with ABC) has all the tourneys (football, girls hockey, boys hockey, girls basketball, boys basketball)
(by the way KSTC, KSTP and WDIO are all owned by same folks...Hubbard Broadcasting)

WLJT PBS 11 in Lexington/Jackson, TN carries football and basketball games from West TN area high schools and colleges on Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons during their seasons. Some of the games are live, while others are tape delayed.

During football season, KTXA 21 (Ind.) in Dallas airs high school football usually on Friday nights. Meanwhile in San Antonio, KMYS 35 (The CW) airs "Thursday Night Lights." I don't know about Austin or Houston or any other markets in Texas. Haven't seen other high school sports aired locally (mostly seen them on cable).

Most of Connecticut gets CPTV Sports on channel XX-3 with an antenna. It's a subchannel offered by CPTV, a part of Connecticut Public Broadcasting, Inc. They air a lot of local high school sports, mostly on tape delay. An occasional New Britain Rock Cats (for now!) baseball game has aired on the channel. I receive it via WEDH-TV channel 24-3 of Hartford. Some of the channel's production costs are covered by WFSB-TV (CBS) channel 3 of Hartford. Their sports anchors/reporters often appear on this station.

Several years ago My 12 (actually 55, really 39 in the digital era) had high school football games that were played the previous Friday night somewhere in the area at noon on Sundays. All I remember is the cheerleaders doing push-ups during the "credits" before I would watch a movie. That was when I still watched some shows live.

Not sure if they still do it, but WSB/ch. 2 in Atlanta had high school football games Friday nights on its .2 subcarrier (usually Me-TV).

I know that Hearst has the High School Playbook that all of their stations (including my local ABC affiliate KOCO Channel 5 in Oklahoma City).

Sinclair I know wants to get in the local high school sports business more; they have contractual specifications with their subs like Grit, Get and Zuus Country that allow local pre-emptions for the American Sports Network, but they're also open to additional HSS, especially on their MyNetworkTV stations.

I thought Hearst was under Operation Football in their markets, unless some other station in OKC called dibs on it before Hearst bought out KOCO from Gannett (Operation Football dates back to the late 80's).

In New Jersey I have seen Verizon Fios carry some high school basketball games on their local "Fios 1" channel. I believe Cablevision in the NYC area has an "MSG Varsity" channel that airs local high school sports.

In the Green Bay, WI area, a MyNet affiliate (My New 32) streams high school sports on Livestream (Not sure if they televise them on air though)

But here in Denver, it's all on cable with Root Sports getting the lions share of it. Altitude & Comcast's very own 24/7 informercial "Entertainment" channel (Better known as CET - Comcast Entertainment Television) provide additional coverage. CET also provides the area's ONLY hour-long local sports report @ 10:00 PM (Kind of a flashback to when FSN had the "Nightly Sports Report" in the same time slot back in the day :D )

Cheers & 73 :)

WKOW (ABC) Madison has the Wisconsin HS Basketball Tournaments that preempt ABC programming for two weekends in March (girls one week, boys the next). They also air on ABC in La Crosse-Eau Claire and Wausau-Rhinelander, MNT Green Bay and WMLW Milwaukee.
