Boxing fans — and maybe even casual sports fans — have been waiting years for Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao to face off in the ring. Now the fight that’s likely to obliterate all revenue records is happening, and archrival premium cablers HBO and Showtime are teaming up on the May 2 PPV telecast. That’s because Mayweather has an exclusive six-fight deal with Showtime and Pacquiao has a contract with HBO. This will mark only the second time the premium nets have worked together on a PPV bout. The other was in 2002 when then-heavyweight champ Lennox Lewis, who had an exclusive deal with HBO, fought ex-champ Mike Tyson, who was with Showtime.

Reports say the fight could cost a record $89.95 to buy, and another 10 bucks for HD.

That may be true in the USA, but in the rest of the world boxing (including the heavyweight division) is alive and well.

How many in Eastern Europe, where you are correct the sport is popular, or Latin America will drop $100 on a PPV? Some certainly, but the big payday is in the USA. I like boxing, but Heavyweight boxing. Heavyweight Championship bouts aren't even available on PPV anymore nor are they routinely telecast. Get an American Heavyweight contender, you might get some interest again.

According to the UK newspapers HBO are relieving subscribers of 100 bucks for the dubious privilege of watching these two guys try and put each other in hospital. I was truly shocked. Is this right? Are people really willing to pay this for a single fight?

Is this anything like a normal price that would be charged for something like this?

It's the most expensive PPV ever. Hard to imagine anyone would drop that kind of dough for this. It should be a very good fight, but not worth $100 to watch on TV. I believe some movie theaters will be showing it and the admission will be something like $20. I guess if you split the PPV fee six or seven ways it might be worth it.

100 bucks doesn't surprise me. Heck, they charge $50-60 for lame UFC fights, and this is a MUCH bigger event. Umfan has it right, just invite all your friends over and split the cost. Or you can probably find a bar in the area that is showing it.

Then there's Twitter's Periscope. Some viewers might use it to live-stream the fight to those who can't afford it. Look at the Game of Thrones season premiere.

HBO Criticizes Periscope Over 'Game of Thrones' Live Streams, Issues Takedown Notices

HBO has sent takedown notices to Periscope after users of the Twitter-owned live-streaming app were using it to broadcast the fifth-season premiere of Game of Thrones on Sunday night (4/12).

"We are aware of Periscope and have sent takedown notices," an HBO spokeswoman said in a statement. "In general, we feel developers should have tools which proactively prevent mass copyright infringement from occurring on their apps and not be solely reliant upon notifications."

Periscope, which allows people to live-stream video from their phones to their Twitter followers with the click of a button, notes in its terms of service that it does not support copyright infringement, but currently relies on reports from users alerting the company to the infringement. "We respect the intellectual property rights of others and expect Periscope users to do the same," the TOS read. "We will respond to notices of alleged copyright infringement that comply with applicable law and are properly provided to us."

The company, which has a team dedicated to content review, has the right to remove any illegal content and shut down a person's account if they are found to be violating the TOS.

I saw an advert on TV and noticed it was (the equivilant of) 30-38 dollars in the UK, depending how and when you book. That surprised me, I thought it was expensive- I'm not paying that!!

Then I googled it largely to check I'd got it right and I saw the US price and I was simply flabbergasted!!

I'm not aware of any cinemas here showing it but some UK bars sometimes show PPV fights, sometimes with a small (3 -5 dollar equiv. entry fee), sometimes not. Bars that show sport generally have slightly more expensive drinks and given the time gap it'll be the radio for me I think!

While this fight has garnered a lot of attention, an event that once would've been the lead boxing story, a heavyweight championship bout, was fought on HBO Saturday night. Wladimir Klitschko dominated Bryant Jennings in a bout that went the distance. Jennings made a surprisingly good showing against the champ. It was good to actually be able to see a Heavyweight Championship Bout held in the United States. I wish the American had won.

Hopefully Klitschko and Denotay Wilder will soon face off.

Yeah, it's 100% do-able in El Paso. XHCJH 20.1 (RF 36) is the Azteca 7 affiliate right across the border in Juarez. It's not on cable in El Paso, but their transmitter is just 2 miles from UTEP, so an indoor antenna could pick it up.

In Tucson, it looks you'd be pulling in a station from 70 miles away--and I'm not exactly sure of the terrain between Tucson and Nogales.

Buffalo Wild Wings charging cover to watch Mayweather-Pacquiao fight

If you want to watch the huge Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao fight this Saturday and you aren't one of the 1 percenters heading to Vegas, you'll have to shell out nearly $100 to view it from home in HD.

Or you can go to a bar.

That will cost you too though -- even if you plan on watching it at a local Buffalo Wild Wings.

Buffalo Wild Wings (BWLD), the publicly traded restaurant chain that caters to sports fans, is going to charge a cover at a "handful" of company-owned restaurants.

Buffalo Wild Wings said nine corporate locations are carrying the fight and will have a $20 cover charge.

Its franchised restaurants have charged covers in the past for big fights.

Outages reported nationwide on Mayweather-Pacquiao PPV

The pay per view cablecast for the Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao has begun, but for viewers nationwide who have been trying to buy the fight in the hours leading up to the big event, they are finding some difficulty.

Subscribers to some of the major cable and satellite providers report problems in accessing the pay per view. Now HBO and Showtime had been appealing to people to buy the fight early so they wouldn’t encounter problems, but fans usually buy pay per views on the day of, usually just hours or even minutes before the PPV begins.

This is cable’s worst nightmare as people get together for parties at homes across the country and as they press their remotes to order the fight, viewers get nothing. Cable providers will have to provide refunds or credits to angry customers who are expecting to watch the pay per view, but are getting disappointment instead.

The Hudson Grille restaurant in Brookhaven -- a suburb of Atlanta -- was showing the fight (okay, so I saw a portion of the undercard bouts), but guess where I watched the remainder on? That's right...Periscope!!!

I sure saved my $100 by seeing it for FREE!
