94.5 KEMA Three Rivers back on the air

Title sums it up. Here is it's info. http://fccinfo.com/CMDProEngine.php?sCurrentService=FM&tabSearchType=Appl&sAppIDNumber=607270

Basically right now it's just Texas/Red Dirt country back to back, no messages or announcements of any kind that I heard. I've however heard one or two mainstream songs, but not many.

The audio fidelity on this thing is nice and clean. Here's a sample, many of you will recognize this song. http://sndup.net/48rf

It sounds promising so far. I wish them luck! If the Alpha sports translator wasn't there, it might just make it into San Antonio (sorry Alpha, but I like Texas music better than sports talk).

It Makes It In Austin I Wonder Who Was Playing Country On 94.5!!

Wow! It does travel far...

It is a 48KW station, though. If I mess with my headphone antenna on my portable radio right now on the north central side of SA, depending on how I point it, I can receive KEMA slightly even with Alpha's translator on. Tropo doesn't seem to be acting up right now, and this still happens.

And interestingly enough, Kema is a river in Russia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kema_River
Maybe that's where it got the call letters, KEMA Three RIVERs...

This station's got some ID messages now... Lonestar 94.5.

"Other stations say they play Texas music. We deliver. Lonestar 94.5."
"Texas music 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Lonestar 94.5."
"As much a part of Texas as The Alamo. Lonestar 94.5."

There's a young and energetic-sounding guy on those messages.
That's the best I can remember, apologies if I don't have all the words 100% accurate.

Last night shortly before I posted the last message, the music died and KEMA went quiet with the transmitter on. I didn't want to say anything in case it would get worked out, but It's still quiet, with the transmitter on... ???

What happened over there? Another station having technical problems? Or has Lonestar not worked out the way we all would have hoped? I really hope the TX country format isn't about to be gone from the area once again.

Let's leave the past forum posts about this broadcaster in the past and look at the station itself.
It's a shame all the corporate broadcasters seem to have forgotten about the local music which is WAY better than the top 40 country. But from a listener's perspective, KEMA seems to be one small-time station getting on their feet and providing some good music to an area which needs it. If their work is legit, I hope it continues to live on and get better, possibly serving San Antonio in the future.

Ooh dream weaver
I believe you can get me through the night.
Ooh dream weaver
I believe we can reach the morning light...

Yeah, Mouse. I wouldn't get my hopes up. The fine folks of Three Rivers won't.

You're probably right.
I just found the new station, liked the format, and got excited. That's pretty much it.
If it comes back, great. But I'm not fully expecting it to right now.

You do know that "Lonestar" is Roy's wheelhouse format, right? Jump up 2 channels to 94-9 and you'll hear the same thing, only with the "Texas Mix" branding. Don't like the "Mix"? How about some "Texas Thunder"? That's down in Hallettsville at 99-9, again same format with a different brand. 92-3 in New Ulm, 98-3 in Columbus...both Texas country, both co-owned with KEMA...

Of course, where you're at, you'll need to go online to listen, but the same holds true with KEMA, given the Alpha translator being in your way.

We know WHY this station is on the air. Let's hope it lasts!

The link for their stations which were online (TX Mix trimulcast) doesn't seem to work anymore.

Lonestar 94 plays mostly new and modern red dirt while the others have older stuff mixed with classic general country. I like the newer stuff slightly better. LOL but yeah I see what you mean, most of their stations are some form of TX country.

It might be noted the Thunder Country KYKM/KTXM are owned by the husband and wife that managed those stations for Mr. Henderson and have been for a few years.

I didn't know Roy had sold the two, b-turner. My apologies for misrepresenting the pair as still Henderson owned. It's what I get for sending us into a tangent. That's the problem with most message boards. If you didn't have ADD before you got here, it won't take lon for it to develop.

Mouse, is KEMA still running an open carrier, back to Lonestar, or completely off the air now?

It's an open carrier. I will try and update if I notice changes.

I admit I could have been part of the problem. I completely forgot KNBT 92-1 for a minute, which plays some red dirt and does come in fairly decent at my location.

As for Thunder, they must be very good at keeping it on the air and running it... Awesome.

The only way I knew the Hallettsville and Yoakum stations sold is my boss bought the AM and the AM site was co-owned. That was back around when Hurricane Ike hit. My boss had no electricity for a month so he moved to a spot with electricity. It seems the FCC tried calling my boss at home and then called Hallettsville. Why the FCC didn't just call our station is beyond me (we stayed on the air). When the FCC called Hallettsville again, they got scared and said we could no longer co-locate and that's when KHLT went silent. They're nice folks but were freaked out...as I would have been...sinking their life savings in to the down payment on the FMs.

Ah...well that's what I had missed. I remember KHLT's sell off (that'd be the current KQQB Stockdale for those keeping score at home) but never knew the FM duo was sold off as well. Thanks for the tip, Bill!

KEMA appears to now be off the air. Either that or it's still dead air and I can't receive it anymore.

Ya know, the owner might wanna sell this station for cheap, considering how much he cares about keeping it on the air (or at least seems to care). I guess if someone wants a station down there they can try getting it. Once the license is out of the owner's grip I guess anyone is free to make it a legit station, if they want to support local FM radio in the area around George West Beeville and Three Rivers.
It's literally one of the only stations down there in that area, at least on FM.

It's actually totally off the air, for those keeping score. Been off since the last time I posted. Will they go back to what they were doing for the past 10 years? Only time will tell...

I've been listening to KYKM recently. Great country music, I like how they don't seem to play much of the cheesy top 40 style country that's coming out now. It's all modern-sounding though, with some Texas country which just makes the simulcasting pair of stations better.

BTW one changed frequencies, it's now 94-3 KYKM Yoakum. That one comes in here during tropo a lot more often than 99-9 KTXM, which has lots of bass. :) Both stations sound great, actually.
