New RKO morning show: Carrigan and Nilosek...?

Tweet from @bostonradio: 680 installed new morning drive show with former 4/7/25 TV news anchor Kim Carrigan and Chuck Nilosek,

They are saying "in for Kuhner"
>>That's a soft launch. http://Boston.com elements to come soon
>>New hosts are saying 'Jeff will return in a couple of days'. They haven't said 'Kuhner Report' once in the first 60 minutes
>>Kuhner will be moving to 9-noon or 10-noon.

does anyone know when Barry Armstrongs leased time contract is up with Entercom?

Personally I wish Kuhner would go away.

I can't listen to him for more than a minute.

I enjoyed Kim on "The Financial Exchange", she really improved the show after June Knight went to Tampa, and that is not a slam on June, who has always been a consummate professional, but Kims background in news and journalism allowed her to do hard news interviews and they were good too.

If Kuhner is Rush's lead in I won't be listening, I will try to find Barry Armstrong on another one of his stations, assuming he keeps it going at all if he loses WRKO

-Nothing is on that site that you posted on Boston.com. If you can't put your source here so we all can see it, don't be starting rumers

Source is tweet from @bostonradio and messages he sent to me. He was mentioning boston.com not so much linking to it.
The tweet is the top one, rest are all messages from him to me.

@bostonradio told me last yr that Fin. Ex contract was "up in May" and RKO wasn't happy with them. He told me a few wks back they wanted to
move Kuhner to late mornings and Fin Exchange to 7 pm so they could do this new morning show in association with boston.com. If Armstrong didn't want to move, see ya...i.e. Levin would stay at 7 instead.
This again is a soft launch according to him. "Kuhner will be back in a couple days". Yes but not necessarily in am drive...?...

Well, good. Maybe now WRKO will have two listeners in the morning instead of just one:the spouses or significant other of the two hosts - ;)

Via Tom Shattuck of Herald Radio,a vid was posted on Nilosec's Facebook of him and Carrigan about to start the RKO show (not on air but to whoever was doing vid). "We're online at RKO..and boston.com?"

"...Not yet..."

I listened to the opening of the show this morning and Kim stated they were sitting in for Jeff Kuhner who was taking the week off. She said he will be back on Monday.

She mentioned they were in for Jeff Kuhner after the 6:30 news update as well.

This is the first time in quite awhile that I have listened to WRKO in the morning. IMHO, this show in the little I have heard so far is a vast improvement and would keep me listening.

Nothing official yet but it's mentioned on other board RKO --may-- try local talk 6 am-7pm...if they can't come to terms with Fin. Exchange or simply part ways and if they choose to dump Rush (if, if, if...) does WMEX go for the displaced shows? Again a big "if"..

I know you are speculating but let me ask you this Bob...

why would WRKO ever consider dropping Rush?

When Rush was pulled from them by CC for that failed "Rush Radio" thing, WRKO had a revolving door installed in the studio for hosts.

They had "Lunch Money" with Barry Armstrong, which morphed into the Financial Exchange, they had Manning and then McScreech IIRC,

Rush is the perfect lead in for Howie, I bet they get Rush for cheap, and even though Rush's numbers are assumed to be down, and main stream advertisers consider him toxic, he is still a product that can be sold to local advertisers.

I may be wrong (again) but I don't see them dropping Rush, after all they didn't have to pick him up after 1200 gave up on him

Well I'm not speculating it--on the other board it's said the "whispers" are they want to go local 6a to 7p sometime in the next month..whether it happens remains to be seen. At the very least if they doCarrigan & Nilosek then Kuhner, then either Rush or a local host, it would be all conservative talk with no interruption for financial, and potentially all local. And as the "CBS telling advertisers they may go back to classic hits" rumor showed, these are all "ifs" and for all we know could be put out there to throw us off. See the"insight" board for more...

Having Howie as an affiliate costs less than Ent. having him as an employee--they get his show but not control of it (content, guest hosts) and with some of the money they save they can pay a new host or keep paying Rush who, despite the defections, has gone from 600 affils to maybe 595*. (on some weaker stations in places...like the 7k AM
in Pittsburgh that took Rush when 104.7 went country...)

*--lost Pittsfield and Hawaii due to Fluck controversy. Off in Rutland just before that
*--lost sparsely populated Presque Isle ME when station sold, going non-comm Catholic
*--moved to other stations in NY, LA, Pittsburgh, SF
*--losing Indianapolis and, rumor has it, Chicago. Could be picked up by other stations.

Looks like the "Daze" of the drg addled Rushbo are limited. Have you seen pictures of his of late. He is so fat now Chris Christie looks thin next to him.

barry is instant revenue for entercom. can't see him going anywhere. so you either move kuhner to nights or put him in the noon slot and then tapedelay rush.

I'm not sure Rush allows his show to be tape-delayed, so if 'RKO has to put Kuhner somewhere, as much as I'd hate to see Mark Levin pushed back even further till 10 PM, then put Kuhner on at 7 PM.

For the past few weeks, 'RKO has pre-empted Levin on Friday nights to provide a live call-in wrap-up pertaining to the Marathon bomber trial. I was always hoping this was not the beginning of a trend for them to go local every night at 7, especially at the expense of Levin.

Rush is tape-delayed on a lot of stations in the midwest to 1pm (he runs 11-2 central time) due to noon farm programming. Probably has to be negotiated in the contract and I don't think Rush can be moved to nights.

RKO seems to want this new morning show, so where does Kuhner go? 10 am if they don't renew with Armstrong; noon, replacing Rush, or 7 pm replacing Levin. But talk
radio listenership goes down after PM drive (though WBZ has Rea--no place for him in daytime due to news). RKO has tended to have syndie shows then...years ago they
did local with Two Chicks Dishing but then it was Hannity, Savage etc. For a few years like 07-08 and into 09, RKO was the Sox flagship and a local host would have been
often pre-empted by a game. (For a time WTKK had Graham on at 7...)

Armstrong may make money for RKO but they'd rather put him on at 7 pm--so he may be understandably resistant to such a move, fewer listeners etc. Not sure how long
Kuhner's contract is, and yes Rush may do well for RKO, but I can't see them relegating Kuhner to 7 pm. Rush move to 7 pm? Probably not. He might be a half decent
lead in to Howie. So might Kuhner. Local into a regional show. Yes we do remember Charley Manning and Michele with one L. Well, Ent. may desire totally local from 6a to 7p.
Cumulus is totally local with WPRO. iHeart moved Rush and Hannity to what is now KEIB in LA so that KFI could be totally local. For several years, WTKK was local for much of
its lineup and while it did fade after awhile, it gave RKO a run for its money for a time (E&B, Graham, Severin, McPhee etc )

I have a hard time understanding why they'd want to KEEP Kuhner. His ratings aren't great and his diction makes him hard to listen to for any length of time.

Carrigan and Doug "VB" Gowdy would be my choice for morning drive.

I doubt the hanging out with Howie Carr thing is a long term thing for VB, Carrigan is a news pro, VB is great for opinion, I'd love to know if it was considered.
