La Poderosa coming back on May 25th... on 1570 and 1600?

So does this mean that WNDA/WLRS is done?

Here is what Tino Corona is saying on Facebook when asked what happened to 620:
"Mayo 25, 2015 empesamos en la 1570am & 1600am."

Translation: "On May 25, we begin on 1570 AM and 1600 AM."

It would be sort of a shame seeing that they have some of the most rational talk on there (Rocky Knight, Bob Domine, and Clark Howard). But seeing that 1080 is a dead station in the hands of a more powerful corporation, I can't imagine anybody listens to 1570 or 1600.

Wow. Thanks for the info.

Whether in English or Spanish, I find it "interesting" when managers of a station can not even spell the most basic words in their language in social media. It is all the more bizarre since spell check is built into most sites or is an easily done task.

You can't exactly expect the best from the same radio station that posted this "Mexican Word of the Day" on their timeline yesterday. Seriously, they posted this:

Quizá es para que los gringos no puedan usar el traductor. Jaja.

I wonder if they (particularly WLRS) will keep the call letters as they are. I'd hate to see the WLRS go out there for anybody to grab, I keep maintaining that hope that somebody will bring back some flavor of WLRS for nostalgic purposes. I'd even be satisfied if 102.3 changed the call letters to WLRS without changing anything else about the station (not that they would), at least it would put those call letters back on the station where they were born, and since they did maintain the WLRS call letters all throughout the Mix 102 era in the 90s, it would still hold a small amount of nostalgia. Or really, I think it would be cool if WAKY was WLRS. That definitely wouldn't happen either (especially since WAKY is determined to be WAKY), but WAKY is sort of a dated nostalgia that resonates mostly with those over age 60... I think almost everybody over the age of 25 (as well as those over the age of 60) grew up knowing some version of WLRS.

So I guess according to the RadioInsight article, New Albany Broadcasting Co is getting out of the AM radio biz. I see that as to mean they would rather concentrate on the TV station. That is owned (or managed) by David Smith isn't it?

It would be great if 102.3 would return the WLRS call letters to the station. They could still be "The Max" and they currently only use the call letters at the TOH anyway so it wouldn't be any different. It would be cool if they could ID as "WLRS 102.3 The Max"

David Smith is the vice president and co-owner of 1570 / 1600 and WKYI Channel 24 (This TV). Rocky Knight is the director of operations.
My thoughts are that 1570 / 1600 will be leased to La Ponderosa and 1570 will become WTUV. I don't know about 1600 and the WLRS call letters.1600 AM is a daytime only station as far as I know.
The thing I hate is the loss of Rocky Knight (again) and Bob Domine on 1570.Hopefully they both can find a home for their shows on another station.

1570am

Maybe David Smith has something up his sleeve. Maybe a more powerful signal on another frequency.

If he does, it doesn't look like Rocky Knight is part of it. He has been posting his shows on his Facebook page regularly, and since last Monday, he has been counting down how many shows he has left. As of today, he has "9 to go."

Troy will be on with Rocky tomorrow morning at 8 for the last time possibly, these guys are too good not to be on the radio, hope they show up on a new signal soon.

All that is left for them is WAKY. It seems though that Rocky is keeping loyal to New Albany Broadcasting, though in all fairness, they seem to be crumbling piece by piece. All they have left are the TV stations which most people don't even know exist.

Wouldn't it be great if "Louie" returned to 100.5 and that Rocky and Troy were the morning team?

I wish, I keep thinking that Louie on 100.5 is more of a pipe dream though. It seems that is the consensus of what everybody around here thinks should happen to 100.5, and I'm still hoping to turn on 100.5 to find Louie come back... but I can't say that I actually expect it.. I also sort of think that if 100.5 went back to something like Louie, they'd just go jockless. That seems to be the trend for stations like those anymore.

If this is the end of the line for Rocky Knight on radio, it is sort of a shame that it ended like this, with a one hour show on a station that nobody knows exist. Not a word is being said about his "retirement," he's just fading away with no fanfare. I'm willing to bet there are plenty of his fans out there saying that they wish he was still on radio, unaware that he has been for the past year.

No disrespect, but what year did Rocky leave WQMF? No one under the age of 40 even knows who he is unless they listened to him and Troy on 104.3 Louie.

I beg to differ. I'm not 40 (yet) but I listened to the Rocky and Troy show for years on QMF, and again on Louie. They were the number 1 rated show for years, but CC went cheap and put Bob and Tom on in their place. Rocky left in 2002 or 03 if memory serves. He did afternoon drive on QMF after the Rocky and Troy show was cancelled, while Troy did mornings on SFR for 10 years.

I'm under 40 myself, although you sort of have a point in that I'm not (nor have I ever been) his target audience... but the problem is that you can extend that logic to just about anybody on radio locally. There are plenty of "popular" radio personalities here that people under 40 are unaware of, in fact, I bet you'd find a majority of people under 40 have no clue who Terry Meiners is. That may seem crazy, but people under 40 aren't really his target audience and many in that age group don't really know or care who he is. The same could be argued for Coyote Calhoun, Wayne Perkey, Chris Randolph, Mike Shannon, the Ramsey Brothers, and almost anybody who isn't on WDJX, WLGX, WXMA, or WNRW today and right now. They all have their place as being prominent local radio personalities, but those over 40 are really the ones who are actively listening to the radio and know/remember any of them well.
