Seems expanding the playlist is working for plj. The answer for them seem to be a more upbeat version of lite fm and to get away from chasing the chrs.

They could cherry pick the bon jovi etc 80s stuff that all females love, the santarias and the best testing offerings of the 90s, and a nice mix of 2000s gold to go along with the adult hit music of right now.

I know they haven't fully dived in just yet, but if a slight expansion is bringing the #s up, they should double down, or just go for it completely. If they play all the mass appeal stuff like lite but go harder there just is no way that their cume wont build, those #s are very very low, for what was once New York's most listened to radio station.
 
I just checked out some of their recently, and saw that they had play songs like Circus and I Wanna Go by Britney Spears, Die Young by Kesha, One More Time by Daft Punk, and Knock You Down by Keri Hilson. I think it is great that they are playing some dancey-uptempo tunes I don't hear on Hot AC as much as I would like to!

Most of the month to month 25-54 growth is due to mornings.

That said, WPLJ is about the most wobbly station among the top 20 stations. The current 6 AM to Midnight 25-54 is about the same as February and last October, in fact.
 
PLJ... I've listened to the new morning show a few times, it is an improvement over solo Todd. The expanding playlist if done right and without too much repetition of specific 80s and 90s cuts could attract listeners that are seeking an alternative to LITE & Fresh. Other significant bumps for April would be LITE, Q104 and to a lesser extent NASH. I cant argue with LITE's success however I feel a station like PLJ can pull away audience if they go about it the right way during at work hours and as an alternative at night to Delila and not breaking format during the holiday season. Q104 is doing well for now but at some point need to increase the amount of 90s and 2000's which would have to be classic alternative or indie product. Is NASH doing better because of or in spite of their short lived experiment of blending in non country cuts during live programing hours?
 
I hate to admit it, but yeah, todd 2.0 is better than todd 1.0 but not by much. the breaks still barely last two minutes each and the hosts hardly talk to each other at all. it's clear one resents the other being there...I can't imagine people like listening to that in that it actually brings people in.

They always played those songs cause they were all chart hits.
 
Fresh should tweak by adding some older tracks and leaving the pop to Amp. Sure some songs will cross over which is understandable. But with Amp doing better Fresh needs to tweak, sound more like Mix 94.1 Las Vegas which is a good example as CBS Las Vegas has a pop and hot ac.
