TV Trade R.O.S. or Readying The Tombstone?

After 93 Q-Country died, hat covering face--boots up--dead, on the floor, in the Drug Store,...I was told by Management...to listen this week for a Big Change; September 13th, 1996. That was the day that THE PLANET launched. From my desk, at my retail business, I listened all day. This was to be the panacea for the void left by the (April) ankling 103X. Recently, on TV, I saw an Ad for THE PLANET. I can't see Entercom budgeting money for such, with Pee-u-nee ratings being the station's common delivery. Trade-out R.O.S., with content TBA. So,...with Entercom making some progress, due to the current GM, I wonder if this is the last Orbit for THE PLANET? Could this be the Ultimatum,.....annnnnnnnnd....are they readying the Tombstone. Are we far away from a New format, designed by some Cosmic Consultant, Dwelling a Cubical, on Planet Pencilneck?

The Cruel Reality of a Total House cleaning is always a possibility, with replacements Hotel-ed nearby. For me, I am not a listener, and have not been such for a very long time. So, I hate to see anyone loose their employment, but for this market, you can almost hear the Heads Rollin'....

HAH! HAH! HAH! HAH! HAH!

I think I nearly did a frickin' spit take!

Replacement jocks in a nearby hotel!

HAH! HAH! HAH!

You are so funny.

I can't imagine doing a format change by doing anything more than just loading a different log into the playback system. Why would that take a whole staff of people and why would you need to put them up at a hotel?

They say laughter is the best medicine... and I think I just got an overdose....

Yep. That's all it takes these days. I laughed too. We've had many format changes in the last few years in Charleston. 98.9 alone, owned by Kirkman, has gone through 4. Spanish, Oldies, Chick FM, and Sports. They just put in a log. Citadel had Cat Country 107.5. They basically put the same music log on 96.9 when 107.5 moved to Columbia.

And 93.3 doesn't have Pee-u-nee ratings. They have a 3.6 12+. They're not in the under 3 danger zone yet. WBT is! 2.8 in Charlotte. 15th! place in the market last PPM.

93.3 caters to 18-40 audience. Especially high school and college students.

WBT is an owie.

I guess the conserva-talk thing is done in Charlotte. IMHO and without the benefit of doing the research, it would seem WBT's best days ahead would be as a rolling news-heavy News/Talk. Charlotte seems to be grown-up enough to sustain a rolling news service. It's a question of whether Greater Media wants to invest the resources into it.

Just read millenials are a generation that is bigger than the Baby Boomers. So 18-40 is a pretty smart position for future growth.

All news has already failed in Houston and Atlanta, which are bigger than Charlotte. Just because you build it doesn't mean they'll come.

BT's problem is it's on AM. Everyone else is on FM. Build a fancy restaurant in a dump, and it'll be hard to get people to come no matter how good the food is.

WBT -- is -- on FM and has been for over a decade. WBT-FM (99.3) Chester is a complete simulcast of 1110 AM.

It does not reach as well to the Northeast and East of Charlotte and the Lake Norman area, but it's not bad.

You boys are lulled into a false sense of Superiority, as if you can't be replaced, and so, the Suits will leave you be. Over the years, I remember so many examples of those,...like yourself, that just never saw it coming. The Titanic wasn't stoppin' for Ice, even though some probably believed such! You also don't believe in Payola's Comet, and it too is nearing orbit. The groups that got fined the last time....never saw it coming, but had to pay stiff fines, just to avoid prosecution. For those workin' at The Planet,...have a Plan B.

99.3 is designed to transmit WBT's signal to the western side of Charlotte and areas beyond the Catawba River where 11.10AM does not reach after dark. It gets a good signal all the way to Spartanburg, and I pick it up on my home receiver in northern Greenville County, including the HD signal. And speaking of HD, WBT is also simulcast on WLNK 107.9-HD2 channel, which has a wider coverage area. I recommend upgrading your car receiver to an HD Radio, with current models from Kenwood, Pioneer, and JVC getting good reception in the car.

I agree, as I purchased a modern(for now) car unit; a JVC "Arsenal". This unit was what I both wanted, and needed for "Road Rock"! If Radio doesn't satisfy, there's CD, and that ever-so convenient USB for Thumb Drives. I have a 32-gig....a "Big Toe" drive! I scan the dial, and use the HD, which gives one more choices. Even New, the unit was inexpensive. However, the gadget can't solve Bad Programming....the Pencilneck Product....Awww-ful songs....that were good, before they became BURNT! It also can't school Awww-ful on-Air Boobs, that need a Muzzle, instead of a mic. I prefer Live Radio, but I recharge my pod, outta Self Defense!

There are far too many ad hominem attacks in this thread. I have removed some.
Please stop the insults.

Provided the person doing this isn't near that location where a translator or something isn't messing up WLNK.

WLNK has interference issues from low power translator signals in parts of Greenville, SC and Columbia. But throughout most of the greater Charlotte metro and beyond, they have a very strong signal, including the HD. Extending from Greenville, SC to the edge of Greensboro, and down to Columbia. So if he is in Charlotte, he should have no reception problem. I just wish the FCC had restricted the legal spacing of some of these translators just a bit further from the contours of full power stations.

Columbia is far far outside the licensed contours of WLNK. The fact that you may receive it in Columbia is just a fluke. Furthermore, Columbians have little to no interest in listening to Charlotte radio, despite the fact that WNOK is mostly Charlotte personalities and WMFX carries John Boy and Billy.

I listened to WLNK in HD from Fountain Inn all the way down 26 to almost Harbison Rd, when a low power religious station began to take over. And WLNK-HD would continue to lock in and out around various parts of Columbia. But indeed that area of the Midlands is getting beyond their fringe contour, unlike Greenville which lies within their coverage contour and has a stronger signal, prior to the interference from WXRU.
