But if all that's left in a market are three AMs, one running infomercials, one running Spanish-language religion, one running a mix of brokered programming in various languages, with all the other AMs having gone dark (and the govt can't stop a station owner from pulling the plug, can it?), who is even going to know that those stations are on the air if an emergency should happen? Everyone with a radio will look to their favorite FM station for information. Like Randy Newman's Short People, AM got no reason to live.

Not my problem. Radio companies are merely licensees. If I have a driver's license, and the highway is falling apart, it's not my problem. My job is to make sure I drive within the rules set forth. It's not my job to repave the roads or fix the bridges. If they want to tax me for that, they can. But I'm not responsible for the condition of the highway.

The radio companies are very aware of the situation, and they're transitioning their content to other platforms. The content belongs to us. The platform does not.
 
I don't see any thread at the other board aboutthis are you sure the denist said he wants to bring oldies to WABC on the weekends ?
 
Oldies schmoldies. He's a dentist ... he's a radio guy ... why not host, "In The Dentist's Office" on weekends? It would be a tax write-off and probably a real hoot!

It's not a 100 per cent tax write-off. He'd still pay mostly out of pocket for what's essentially a "hobby show."
 
Nobody said 100%. But can you imagine the bumper music? "Hurt," "Give Me Novacaine," "King of Pain," "Hurt So Bad" ...
 
heh, we basically came up with his radio nickname, 'the dentist'. You could call the show 'The Waiting Room'......

Is it just me, or is it that this guy has so little respect outside his own board where people treat him like the ultimate power that we simply refer to him as 'the dentist ;o)'......

Back in 2009 I was unaware that a local translator near me on 97.5 FM had returned to the air after being off the air for several months (because it had been sold and technical improvements were being made) and was stunting with Feliz Navidad on a loop (before launching as a Spanish Tropical format and eventually move to 97.1 FM). And I posted an innocent question on the board "Is WALK 97.5 stunting with Feliz Navidad before they officially flip to Christmas Music?" ----- And in under 5 minutes he deleted my post. This was near the end of October or beginning of November so theoretically it would be almost time for WALK to flip to Christmas Music.

Someone could've have responded to my post with "No, they're still running their regular programming you must be getting some other station on 97.5 FM." Then I would've responded with "Thank-you. The translator in Bolton, Connecticut must've returned to the air then."

WALK-FM is audible in a lot of Connecticut so in places it would interfere with the translator. That's why the owners of the translator eventually moved it to 97.1 FM.
 
People only mention him, because he has a good site. He's not a serious person in the radio industry, and he's not good at predicting things. I don't understand why people like his radio jingles page or rewind radio. I understand hearing old clips of radio hosts, but what's the point of airchecks from djs or redoing music radio that used to be on WABC? It's not like that music is obscure.
 
I spent several hours in a surgery center yesterday and while awaiting my turn on the table I got to listen to a small radio in the pre-op room. Mind you, virtually everyone working in that room was between 20-30 years old and most were much closer to 20 than 30. What was the music playing? A collection of 50's and 60's classics.

What was the average age of the patients? Most places that put on music in customer areas do it to please the folks who bring money through the door, not themselves.
