Evening anchor on midsize-market network affiliate > Weekend anchor on 2nd-banana independent, even in Market #12.
Who knows -- maybe he was on the chopping block and he knew it. With 3 and 5 combining operations, lower-tier newspeople will probably be gone from both stations.
I keep hearing about the possibility of cuts at 3 and 5 but then they just hired a new anchor to replace Catherine and the weekend AM weather personality from KGTV (ABC-10) San Diego is leaving June 14th to join KPHO.

Well, KPHO just lost Pat McReynolds so it appears that CBS5 Morning News is back to two anchors with no "host". (Of course, very few people actually watch the CBS5 Morning News).
As for the new weather anchor, I am surprised that they are not consolidating the weather department. I had assumed that they wouldn't replace the weekend pm position. It does seem like they are letting some of the reporters leave without replacement. That makes sense since they are cross-utilizing reporters between 3 and 5 Some of the reports are "look-lives" now, where they have pre-recorded a live report (and make many watchers think they are reporting live).
