Kuhner going National?????

The Crazy One teased a big announcement that he would be making in the next few days. He said "that in order to take the Country back he had to take the show national but he would also have a special line for his Boston callers." I can't wait to see how many stations clear him. Does some syndicator think that as stations drop Limbaugh Kuhner could fill the void?. His ratings on RKO have been consistently low. Entercom hasn't spent a nickle to promote him locally. I doubt Entercom is going to spend money and resources on Kuhner. Bill Cooksey told me they have planning the move to 12-3 and national syndication for a year. Seems like a non starter to me but that is just my opinion.

He may have been watching Howie do his thing with his own network, and income stream. He may also bee looking at the fact that Rush is starting to sunset in a lot of places. Let's face it, there is not going to be a lot of room for big time raises in the coming years in the talk format. He probably has been pitching this idea for awhile. I don't imagine there are many takers.

Didn't they have some billboards featuring him around? Could have swore I've seen some.

Let's face it...self-syndication is a lot of work and rarely works. A larger organization with the infrastructure in place to distribute and sell spots is whats needed. I can't image many syndicators looking to good 'ole WRKO in Boson as a successful model of farm talent. I can't imagine many syndicators looking to Khunher as the "next generation" of talk talent.

Looks like he's just trying to make some noise (What with the Boston Herald Radio tirade), his contract might be coming up. ;-)

Indeed maybe third or fourth string syndicators
maybe, unless Ent. wants to do it themselves
as they did yrs ago with Howie, but I also
doubt they'd do that, especially given the
talk radio climate these days. Yes Howie
did syndicate himself but only regionally
not nationally and luckily for him the
stations Ent. brought aboard for him
stuck with him.
Maybe a few stations at most.He did do
fill ins for Savage years ago. Dollar signs
in his eyes but I wouldn't expect a miracle.

I couldn't imagine another station hiring Joe from the Airport.

That would require them to run Kuhner on other Entercom talk stations. Since WRKO is the lowest rated Entercom talk station, I doubt they'd do that. They have far more successful talent in the system.

Well I meant like how they got WVMT, WCRN, WHYN, WXTK, WGAN etc to pick up Howie years ago. More than a few of these stations run Rush, as it is...

What other Entercom stations are there which run (non sports-) talk? Via their site
KJCE Austin TX
WBEN Buffalo
WSKY Gainesville
WYRD-FM Greensville SC
KMBZ Kansas City
WWL New Orleans
KNSS Wichita KS
WILK Wilkes-Barre PA

Picture any of those picking up Kuhner? Maybe Kuhner is self-syndicating..

OK here it is, he said he can break the news--"let me state this like I'm in the confessional", says he's always been honest
"The ratings for the Kuhner Report have been through the roof". He says this despite what his hater say on the Internet.
He said decision was made to take Rush off the air. They then came to him and said they had a major hole in midday slot..." blah blah He said he wants to syndicate but can't do it in mornings because show go local in morning drive. Morning shows are rarely if ever syndicated..." So he'll be syndicated,
what he hopes will be nationally. Yeeaaahhhh :)

The plan is to stay local for awhile then more and more affiliates will be added...

Kuhner says no hard date but around July 4th weekend his show will move to 12-3 pm and they hope to syndicate. They will stay local at first then will go market to market etc.
He feels stations will carry him, not Rush...

1) So yeah, he's doing so great in important morning drive, that's why they're moving him to noon (well,
someone has to replace Rush and be the "anchor of the station")
2) There's three minutes of my life I'll never got back (but wanted to relate to you)
3) Yeah Jeff I believe you about the ratings and the reason and thanks for offering to sell the
Beverly-Salem bridge to me :)

Remember, Kuhner isn't a "radio guy". He's a newspaper guy....and his understanding of radio is pretty cursory.

His logic probably is:

1.) Rush has crested and stations are looking for a replacement.

2.) Howie Carr's business plan to put him on a handful of stations.

3.) I'm never going to make much more money working for WRKO.

I don't think stations are jumping at the thought of putting a low-rated talk host from a low-rated talk station on everywhere. However, stations have been known to take programs to "fill" if the price is right...i.e....$zero.

Howie had a relationship with his affiliates and could command cash from them. Kuhner is not in the same position as Howie, and Kuhners track record isn't so great. (Nor is his reputation as a talk host impressing anyone.)

But....best of luck to him!

This all goes to show the total irrelevance of talk radio. Not even the choir is listening anymore.

Morning drive counts, PM drive counts, not much after 7PM counts, and mid days are not talk radio's strong suit.

People who are working are not going to be able to spend 45 minutes on hold to be the next caller after Joe from the Airport.

If mid day was so crucial, Entercom would not be leasing it to Armstrong 10 hours a week.

Personally I wish he would go away.

Thank God for WCAP in the morning.
