Salem buying AM 1260 WMKI from Disney

Would they do conservative talk? Maybe, though they didn’t do well with 1150. They did just launch an “Answer” station in Pittsburgh with their usual talkers plus local to them Rose Tennant. Rush etc were shuffled off to WJAS when iHeart changed 104.7 to country. Would they run Rush on 1260? He costs a lot of money…

Talking with @bostonradio and he brought up good point--they could move Christian teaching to 1260 and put Answer on stronger 590.
Remember the days of strong news, talk on 590? How about despite the fact that they get crappy ratings with ESPN now, WEEI 850
once did pretty well w/local sports and PBP?

Tweet from northeast Ohio: (NEOMediaDaily) RumorMill: Salem & @iHeartMedia multi market deal that would place @rushlimbaugh on new homes including Cleveland. ‪#‎rumor‬ ====(if so he could wind up on 1260 in Boston if they do indeed go to talk)...

btw Salem does have the URL 1260theanswer.com but currently it redirects to am1260theanswer.com...their Arlington VA talker.

Salem is buying this for 1/6th of what they sold it to Radio Disney for, and will likely have immediate cash flow with the carriage of Limbaugh. Pretty good business deal for them.

Swell. AM 1200 was signal-challenged enough. 1260 is unlistenable up here in the Merrimack Valley.

WGIR would hopefully come in for you, or maybe WCAP could pick him up if Premiere allows it--and IF they have the money; imagine idea of Rush leading into Jeff Santos

Salem is paying $500,000 for KMKI, but $3 million for WMKI in Dallas, Texas. Both are 5,000 watt radio stations. Why the huge price disparity?

So, with Rush headed to WKOX... I see three options (one much more likely than the others):

1) Go "1260 The Answer" with in-house talk and battle WMEX for 3rd place talk station.

2) Go "Money 1260" with in-house business and battle WBNW for 2nd place business station.

3) Go "1260 The Fish", using their Today's Christian Music network, grabbing the few people willing to listen to music on AM until K-Love makes its eventual arrival on 92.5 or 99.1.

Does Salem do business formats?

Question was posed on boston-radio-interest about WKOX shutting off their HD and Eli replied it appears they have; permanently?

...Hopefully...the HD radio site by the way lists WNNW, the AM 800 in Lawrence as running HD along with WBZ, WMKI and WKOX. So if so that will be now be slightly inaccurate. I have heard WMKI does indeed run HD and if they go to a talk or business news format maybe they'd shut it down, too.

While I do have a portable HD radio it's strictly FM, with some AM stations available as subchannels (WBZ, WXKS, WRKO). It isn't an "AM-HD" and "FM-HD" radio so I have no way of knowing if the actual AM signals are running HD or not.

Not really the same thing but don't some talk and sports stations run in mono, not stereo--maybe to slightly help the signal in some areas? WEEI-FM is in mono and for years talk station WNIR in Kent/Akron OH has run mono. Why bother with stereo on a spoken word format? (Note: I just checked my stereo receiver and it appears WGBH, WBUR-FM and WEEI-FM all are in mono; no stereo "light"...)

1260 is a fairly garbage signal. I feel like 200-250 nights in a given year that the signal is either fighting with or clobbered by Fredericton. Im talking inside 128 too....

I wonder if Rush's move to WKOX is temporary. Perhaps Salem tried for overly rich terms thinking that iHeart wouldn't flip another station, but may be more willing to talk now. Either way, they picked up the station for a great price and can load up weekends with brokered programming so they will do well no matter what happens.
