KRCR Redding Having Transmitter Problems

Chico-Redding ABC affiliate KRCR has been having trouble with its transmitter for the last week.

The station told viewers on its website, “KRCR News Channel 7 is experiencing signal problems due to a broken piece of equipment at our main transmitter. Our engineers are working very hard to fix the issue.”

Commenters didn’t seem happy about it, “bet your advertisers are happy, happy, happy,” wrote one. “Better bring out the duct tape and bailing wire. Tomorrow is day 5.”

Knowing the terrain up there, I bet 90% of KRCR's viewers are on cable anyway and that the headends are getting fiber optic feeds directly from the station.

...I live in the North end of Sutter County, and I use a loop antenna. Neither KRCR/7 Redding or KXTV/10 Sacramento can be picked up here OTA...

Thanks for adding first-hand experience to my supposition, King. Appreciate it.

I used to live in the market and unless things have changed, many of the cable providers, DirecTV and Dish were picking up HD signals via OTA ground stations. However things may have changed.

It's a pretty small market so I assume the cable providers, DirecTV and Dish would need to pay for the direct fiber as what advantage does it really have to the viewer (aside from the aforementioned OTA transmitter issues)?
