Boston's talk radio wars! Herald/MEX vs Globe/RKO...

If time salesmen who move into management do so well and are the people who keep the electricity on why do PBS stations like WGBH and WBUR do so well with their programming. Listeners sustain it with their contributions. Some of the suits at Greater Media...who came out of sales were hoping that Jim Braude and Margery Eagan would tank as soon as the left - or more likely were left - the old WTKK 96.9. They didn't. They are thriving at WGBH so much so they extended their hours. By the way, how many format changes have they had at 96.9 since they showed Jim and Margery the door. So, much for the programming experts from the Bufferin/Budweiser sales department who now wear expensive suits...or dresses. Equal time to women in broadcast sales.

PBS has nothing to do with radio stations.

Listener contributions, by themselves, only cover just over one-third of NPR member stations' budgets.

And if you think non-commercial stations don't need sales people, you clearly don't know what you're talking about.

They need time sales but the Budweiser and Bufferin salesmen should not all rise to management. Excuse me, but what planet are your on to post that "PBS has nothing to do with radio stations." I am sure that WGBH RADIO and WBUR RADIO would not agree with you.

PBS is seen as public broadcasting's national TV network,
NPR as public broadcasting's national radio network. Both may
get some aid from the Corp for Public Broadcasting.
In some cases the same entity will run PBS
and NPR affiliates, like WGBH Edu. foundation. To
the best of my knowledge PBS and NPR are
not the same corporate entity.

btw some trivia from "WGBH-TV" entry on Wikipedia.
At one point Ch 2 and 89.7 aimed to start a second
public TV station in Bos.,WGBX /44, and one in
western MA,WGBY / 57.They did that but also had
plans to put stations in N. Adams(to be WGBW-TV),
Worcester,and New Bedford,but those were
never realized.

They most certainly would. PBS is a TV network. Go onto www.pbs.org and show me where radio is mentioned, even once.

And as for sales people rising to management, non-commercial broadcasting is no less dependent on money than commercial broadcasting is. Management performance is measured by money, no matter which side of the aisle one is on, so it's only logical that management people are promoted from sales. Might not be to your liking, but that's the way it works.

As far as I can tell, it's been annoying thumping noises since January of 2013, despite whatever cute format names they've thrown out there for marketing purposes.

Can't find thread about iHeart converting 1430 to talk but just saying they are apparenty going same route in Hartford taking Fox Sports off WPOP 1410 and making it news-talk...unless they keep some FSR shows...
