Daly XXL buys WMEX for $175k

That's too much to pay for a turkey....a nearly dead turkey.
Buy yourself a Mazzeratti or its equal instead.

Blackstrap paid $20 million for 1510 and a NJ station in 07. Reminiscent of how much the NY Times lost when it owned and then sold, for a big loss, the Globe.

So much for the success of conservative talk radio. Worse than Air America. The choir is shrinking by the day. Visiting hours at Waterman's 2 - 4; 6 - 8.

Jeff Santos could have afforded $175k to put prog talk on... well, there may be some success over at RKO at least, though Jeff Kuhner will have you believe being sent to
noontime and getting kicked out of AM Drive is somehow a promotion and his ratings were "through the roof". Right, Jeff K, hence why they're moving your show to a less important
daypart.

The only local talk host to really prosper in mid-day in the hay day of local talk radio was the late great Gene Burns. He used to cross the meridian ..." through a grant from the First Amendment...". Now, that's what local talk radio should be but there was only on Gene Burns. As once said, ' I knew Gene Burns. Gene Burns was a friend of mine and you Jeff Kuhner are no Gene Burns."

This radio station can be yours... if the price is right.
OK, how bout $175k?

$175 large for WMEX plus a move back to Quincy and a 50kw/DA2 diplex off of 1260's sticks would be an incredibly wise deal! They have slugged it out with WBZ and WRKO and held their own against both from Quincy.

Sounds like a super opportunity for a hot-shot radio person to make quite a bit of noise in Boston!

Maybe if they dropped power for a better signal especially at night.

With WNLC and CJRS gone from the frequency, it's a shame they can't do something more with the signal. But I guess short of buying WFED and WWKB and taking them silent.....

A diplex with 1260 might be a possibility. But you'd probably be running <50 kW during the day, and perhaps 5 kW at night.

Have to improve the signal. The night time signal goes everywhere BUT Boston.

Omni...I assume you're aware that Air America actually functioned as a money wash for over-the-max contributions to Dem candidates and never had any business plan that showed a pathway to profitability. As a sideline, they also swindled a charity in, IIRC, Brooklyn or the Bronx. Or maybe you're not. You seem to miss a lot of this stuff.

Today's fun fact...Rush Limbaugh, in the twilight of his career, will pay more in Federal Income Tax this year than Air America grossed in its entire existance..

Ya know, carrying water for these losers just makes you appear to not be a serious person.

Regards,
TSB

What a crock.

Are you a birther, too?

Air America suffered from having too much of an agenda and not enough knowledge of the business of radio. But they had a business plan, which was to emulate network operations like Premiere and Westwood One.

They had a good concept, and were quite effective in getting affiliates, including big power stations in markets like LA, Miami, Portland and Seattle. They got Clear Channel on board with about a dozen stations.

They did not mount an effective sales effort, as nobody in management had any network sales experience.

The hosts were too intense, and were not very entertaining. After the initial thrill of having a progressive voice wore off, listeners listened less or not at all.

Decide... either they laundered a lot of money, or they hardly billed at all. (Answer: they hardly billed at all)

They sold the NJ station this year for 17.5 million. Not bad for a 3KW AM so they took a bath on WMEX. If I owned WMEX I would fix the signal and flip it. $175K for the station and another 100-150K to fix the signal still a deal.

Do you really think that the various owners of 1510 over the years haven't already looked into improving the signal? Or do you know something the rest of us don't?
