Sandmeyer, Churchill out at 1090 AM

Seriously? Another all satellite sports station in the Seattle market basically?

I haven't posted on the site in a long time... until now. So apparently 2 years and 7 months with a local afternoon show wasn't good enough for CBS Radio Seattle; nice job CBS, way to continue to prove the point that radio is dead in Seattle, and is dead nationwide as well.

Truth be told, I listened to Steve Sandmeyer's show on a regular basis on 1090; in addition, back in December I went to a Seattle Thunderbirds game and got a chance to talk with the folks at the promotions table that was there with some people from the station.

I told them that I was a sports radio fan and that i've been listening since day 1, etc.; now the CBS upper management decides "We're not making enough money, I know: let's dump some high priced talent!". Way to go CBS Seattle, way to go :(

As far as Bill Swartz, Steve Sandmeyer and Jason Churchill, I seriously hope the three of them land somewhere and return to radio in some form or another, even podcasts would be great as the three of them together had fantastic chemistry and the show was definitely entertaining, especially when Swartz did his impressions.

Another one bites the dust! I guess the writing (radio) was on the wall when CBS (Seattle)dropped Swartz. 1090 has been remove from my preset in all three vehicles. Four if you count my work vehicle which I live in.
Sorry guys, you were my regular afternoon drive hombres. Seattle radio continues to die a slow and painful death.

This is part of a massive wave of CBS Radio cuts across the country... perhaps as many as 200... including on-air, sales, and support staff. How long until CBS unloads radio properties?

Sorry you lost your favorite station. You're not the first person to have this happen to you, and you're likely not going to be the last. That said, it's not the end of Seattle Radio, and it's not the death of radio overall.

The mistake CBS made was thinking they could go up against two established sports stations with, honestly, not A-level talent. You may have loved Sandmeyer's show, but it's hard to beat established talent such as Mitch Levy and Dave Grosby. Nothing against the three live talent that were released, but the premise of the station was flawed from the start -- getting national spots cleared in the #13 market.

I doubt the station was ever marketed; "check your local listings" at the end of a CBS TV live game doesn't count. Neither does a tent here or there or Thunderbirds play-by-play.

The Fan's best shot is to go hard and heavy for the play-by-play of the NBA and NHL teams, whenever they arrive. Even if they pony up a lot of money, it's not a guarantee, as we all know 1090's night signal is poor.

Like most cases, this is likely all about the money. If Sandmeyer's show rolled in the dough he'd still be working there. And as AQH said 1090 is just a place for spots to clear in Seattle.

Hope they both can find new gigs.
