CBS Radio Philly layoffs?

I saw on another board that business reporter from KYW has been let go, a job he has held since the 70's.

Anyone else within the Philadelphia cluster received the pink slip?

Just read that Bob Charger of WOGL has been let go.. Great talent. Who's next?

I can totally understand this move by CBS, he was the most expendable and weakest link in the chain, so they did what they had to do. Plus the jocks on WOGL are all over 60, isn't WOGL the only station in the market that has jocks this old. I think CBS wants to go with younger talent and maybe none at all. With all the internet and satellite choices, any type of format is available non stop and with no talk. Why would one want to listen to a station with 20 minutes of commercials per hour, plus old jocks taking up time with unnecessary talk, its not like the old days when one would love to hear the jock mixed in with the music, this is not the case now-adays sad to say.

Hmmm...it's the #2 station in town, so obviously LOTS of people.

Also, they don't run 20 minutes of commercials an hour. But thanks for your first-ever post.

First-ever under that name perhaps, but that style seems rather familiar.

FYI Columbo, this is my first post on this board. I visit it a few times a month but never posted. For some reason I decided to add my two cents worth and what do I see, your nasty ASSumption, which had nothing to do with my post, nor did it add anything useful to this discussion. You don't know me or know who I am to reply with such a distorted comment. For all I know you may not be "Bob" Eubanks but the "Bob" I spoke about, who I don't even know.

To the other posters comment, they do well because they have the most variety of any station in the market, and cover all music styles.

So then you've answered your own question. The listeners to this station feel it's a fair trade-off, even given all the other available options beyond traditional radio.

I worked with Bob Charger, I believe it was 1987, at 1380 WAMS Wilmington [it was an Oldies station at that time]. Bob is an encyclopedia of knowledge that covered the music, the artists, and the music industry of that time. Off air, Bob was a great person to work with. I learned much from my time spent with Bob Charger while at WAMS. Sadly, younger ears aren't interested in hearing all that, their loss. Bob didn't just play music, he was entertaining and informative. WOGL's and Philly's loss.
