The Future of 107.1 K296GB

Curious what will become of 107.1? I listen from time to time but I don't hear much of anything local, just a lot of canned programming.

Thought I'd throw it out there to see if anyone knows anything or has an opinion. :)

From a business perspective, what is the point of the translator? There is no advertising, so it doesn't generate revenue. The license fees and electric bill are an investment by iHeartMedia to... increase their presence in market? Further their brand? Take listeners away from competition 94.7 and 98.5? It would seem that eventually they would seek advertising; do any HD2s run commercials?

I'd love some insight into the long-term benefit speculation.

I don't know about Sacramento but in general I've heard commercials on HD-2's. I'd love to see iHeart and CBS use their HD-2's to bring in out of market content. MANY people live in this area work (or some even commute) to the Bay Area on a regular basis. Seems like they could make more ad revenue that way. Are there rules/regulations that govern this?

Ok, so I'm hijacking this thread with an idea. What is iHeart leased space on 93.7 HD-2 to KZAP? Is this legal? Seems like they might actual be able to make some money and put that super translator (K296GB) to some good use. It would compliment their LPFM signal quite nicely.

My 2 cents for what it's worth.

I think its legal, but they would have to LMA the HD-2, to my knowledge an LP-100 cannot have a direct translator.

An LPFM can be relayed over a translator, but its licensee can't own the translator and the LPFM.

Translators can also relay other translators.
