looks like KOMO is making lineup changes again

It appears as if Carlson is out of the midday slot, though he could be still on KVI. They've also got the consumer man doing the midday show now, what's up with that? It's sort of an in-depth news program. Not sure why the midday slots at this station have been such a revolving door over the last 5 years or so.

Because hiring actual talk talent costs money. Instead, the PD is being forced to add duties to whoever he sees in the adjacent urinal.

Ok, so if they haven't had any cuts since last fall, then why the sudden changes? Why not just keep who they've got where they are?

Sinclair needs to pull the plug on this sorry excuse for an "all-news" station. Weisbaum and Glasgow aren't news anchors, Shannon sounds like she's bored and the morning show hosts go together like oil and water. Load it up with some B-level syndication, have TV people or Metro do newsbreaks and you'll have the same ratings - at ten percent the cost.

Problem with KOMO is less about talent and more about signal. AM signals in this market are dying and KOMO's FM is not much more than a south end signal. Spotty at best in Seattle, Eastside and can't be heard north of Seattle. Mid-day is the worst with horrid office penetration. 25-54, outside of sports station spikes, the AM band has become a wasteland with most listeners over 50 and getting older. Some audience in the car at drive times and that is about it in Seattle.

Weisbaum has anchored news for years ... on and off for over a decade on KOMO radio and at one point on KIRO-TV 20-30 years ago.

Of the male anchors KOMO has on the roster, he's by far the best.

I am under the impression that KOMO has one of the best power ratios around- being the ratio of revenue to ratings. is this not true?

True, someone posted the top billing info on another thread. KIRO-FM, KOMO-AM, KPLZ, have the highest revenue to ratings power ratio in the market. Lowest were KUBE, KLCK, KMPS, HOT, KCMS. What makes KIRO, KOMO, KPLZ more attractive to media buyers than their overall ratings would suggest? It can't be cume based. KPLZ is number two in 25-54 cume, but KIRO is 8th and KOMO 13th.

KPLZ is not the #2 biller in the market, and they haven't been for 2 or more years. KIRO is #1 in local billing and overall. KQMV #2, KISW #3, KOMO #4, KKWF #5.

I take it you mean KIRO-FM is #1. Unless they combine both the Talk FM and Sports AM in one report? I suppose having a news and information image gives you a higher return, since these stations don't just play in the background. If they're on your radio, you're hearing the content, including the commercials.

I can see KQMV being #2, thanks to the morning show and overall ratings. KISW gets the adult male listeners. And despite being rated #20 in the market, KOMO does surprisingly well in billing. I imagine KIRO and KOMO get sold in combination with their TV stations, so that gives them added $.

KIRO-TV and KIRO Radio are not owned by the same company.

KOMO TV and radio are owned by the same company. TV/Radio combo buys are not the same as those on AM/FM. Ratings, economics and usage of each medium are very, very different.

Uh, no. The AM and FM are separate. Clearly you're not familiar with the market (or making your assumptions from Google searches).

Your imagination is dead wrong - again not surprising from someone who's not in the market. As AQH noted KIRO radio and TV are not co-owned and while KOMO radio and TV are, they generally do not sell in combination (but there have been cross-promotion events).

Back to the topic of this thread: getting Carlson and his right-wing rantings off a 24/7 news station was a wise move. His presence tainted the station's image.

The post before mine said "KIRO is #1 in billing." But I didn't think they meant KIRO AM 710. They meant KIRO-FM is #1 in billing. That's what I asked about. Usually when we don't include the "FM" suffix, we mean the AM. It has nothing to do with whether I am a Seattle resident or someone who's visited the city numerous times.
