The CW - General Discussion

I thought I’d create a thread for each network rather than clutter up the forum with one-sentence, meaningless stories like RadioSpider, etc.

This thread is for rational general discussion about The CW. Please try not to rant.

Remember that you’re encouraged to create a new thread for “big” events (i.e. America's Next Top Model, affiliation swaps, etc.).

At 54, I think I am a little too old for most of the CW's programming. However, Everwood was/is one of my all-time favorite TV series, probably because it was multi-generational. The only show I've watched on the CW in the past year is Reign, which is quite addictive, even if not historically accurate. I am glad that Reign has been renewed for a third season, because it is fascinating and entertaining.

The only program I ever watch on CW are reruns of "2 1/2 Men". It is worthless otherwise.

Those aren't network runs. Your local CW affiliate station is running those in syndication.

Youse guys are gettin kinda touchy!

I didn't say, nor do I consider, the CW a network.

Interestingly, in Phoenix, the CW is operated by KTVK (3) which was just bought by KPHO (5). 3 and 5 are now co-located in one big building (3's old digs) but I don't know who owns or runs 61 (CW) now. I think at one time it had another owner but was programmed by 3.

Score cahd here! Getcher score cahds heah. Can't tell the playahs witout a score cahd!!!

CW in Hartford/New Haven is in a duopoly with our Tribune-owned FOX affiliate. Both stations are operated out of the "The Hartford Courant" newspaper building on Broad Street, next to I-84/US Route 6. As for CW programming, I tried to watch that last surprise season of 7th Heaven when it was originally cancelled with the end of the previous WB network. WWE Smackdown! was on that network for parts of two seasons (I think?). Today, I don't watch a single show on the station.

I live in the same market as KML-224. I don't watch anything on the CW Network. The last show I watched on the network was the last season of "Everyone Hates Chris". As for local programming I watch Mike & Molly reruns Monday-Saturday at 6PM and Sundays at 5PM. If I can't sleep sometimes I'll watch Family Guy reruns at 1:30AM or 2AM. This fall they're adding reruns of 2 Broke Girls at 10PM and 10:30PM so I'll probably watch those as well. Time slot of Mike & Molly on Saturdays depends on the METS Schedule.

I'm 54 and have watched The CW ever since The WB merged with UPN. I can't even count the number of shows I've watched on all three networks.

During the past season I have watched "Whose Line Is It Anyway" (one of my favorites), "Jane the Virgin" (also one of my favorites), "iZombie" (amazingly, also one of my favorites even though I never thought I'd like a show about zombies, vampires or werewolves), "The Flash" (and a crossover event that concluded on "Arrow"), "The 100" (not a show I enjoy but I always wondered what would happen next in that futuristic society), "Hart of Dixie" (a painful experience), "Penn and Teller: Fool Us", and "Reign" (at least the girls are pretty).

I wonder what kind of responses you would get regarding the CW if you asked a 15-year-old girl about it? Young women are the CW's target market.

It was only a few years ago when my now twenty-something daughters were in that demo yet I never remember them watching the CW at all (unless "Charmed" was on that channel - that was their must-see TV).

This statement hasn't been true since at least 2012. They continue to target a younger audience, but the age has shifted to 18-35, and most of the shows are going after a more general audience. They also struck gold by going after the "nerdier" crowd with superhero and scifi dramas like The 100 or iZombie. They've even beat NBC a few times in Adults 18-49 recently, but that's just as much to blame on the failure of NBC as it is the success of The CW.

Boldfaced shows in the quote constitute all of my viewing of KTLA/5, network or syndication.

Just counting shows that were only on The CW or were still good on The CW when they moved, "Everybody Hates Chris" was my favorite. If you've never seen it, it's "The Wonder Years" in the 'hood except the family seems middle class and respectable, unlike a lot of the show's wacky characters. And Chris Rock narrated in his outrageous way.

"Reba" was my favorite out of all of the network's shows, but by the time The CW reluctantly let a few episodes air, they weren't as good as on The WB.

I enjoyed "Smallville" even more in its WB days, but by the time it was on The CW I enjoyed the message boards even more than the show. "Gilmore Girls" also had fun message boards.
