Texas Association of Broadcasters Annual Shindig

Last summer, when I attended the annual shindig of the Texas Association of Broadcasters, its wasn't the lively party everybody had me expecting. Actually, it was kinda like a HAMFEST, except people dress up formal. Most, anyhow. Lots of grumpy guys compelled by their employers to put in an appearance, their expressions saying "Hurry up, get this over with." Lots of frustrated salesmen trying to pitch the latest console, antenna, or excessively priced remote controlled transmitter to financially strapped broadcasters -- "just lookin', not buyin'." Aside from the general atmosphere of nobody really wanting to be there, I met some interesting people and had a good time.

I must've impressed somebody, as I got invited back again -- and comp'd free of charge! It also appears I'm going to be dining with a former CEO of Clear Channel.

I'm sure a lot of you on this board would enjoy this event. These are the people that bring you radio and TV in Texas. You can talk to them direct. Let them know what John Q. Public really thinks about the radio/tv menu being served across the Lone Star State.

Its being held in Austin at the Renaissance Hotel on August 6th. Here's a link to their promotional video. Gives you an idea what to expect.

I will be there. I've gone for the last ten years or so, and always enjoyed it. I will admit that last year just didn't seem to have the energy that previous conventions have had. I can't put my finger on exactly why that was, but I'm hoping for a great time this year. I usually enjoy myself no matter where I am. I've been accused of having a good time at a wake...

Well, Chuck. You have yourself a grand ol' time. :)

Anybody else wanna go? I still have a couple of guest passes ($40 value - good for trade show only). Send me a PM and you can get in free as my guest.
