He paid how much for KMIK??

Looks like 1580 will almost certainly become religious. He's not just the GM of KXEG, he's their President.

He's also on Twitter, where he tweets a bit about politics/business and a lot about soccer. He's a big Everton supporter.

So I talked to the guy on Twitter and he said that the station will take on a "locally focused spoken word format", but which one he wasn't sure.

It will almost certainly change callsigns as almost all sold Radio Disney stations have. I can see the KMIK calls going to a station that rebrands as "Mike FM" or something though.

Translation: it will become pay to pray with local preachers. The only question is whether the English speaking ones or the Spanish speaking ones will pay more for airtime.

At $1.4m, we're adding this one to the Buckeye Media Hut BK watch list. Insane price given the over saturation of brokered Ancient Modulation stations in the Valley.

Hello there from Tejas, Doc! $1.4 million, huh? Well then...winner, winner, chicken dinner!

An hour ride around Buckeye in the Gremlin, eh? Can I meet catfish (lower case "c") and stop by the Lumberyard for photo ops with the lamptimer, as part of the prize pack?

Edit to add: I will settle for a miniature replica of the hot air fez.

Is land included? That may explain it.

I was always amused that the 740 AM station (KMEO when I was living in the area) covered better than KTUF on 1580. One was 500 watts, and the other was 50 kw. Go figure.

Oh, and to be politically correct, KMEO was "Cameo". If it were a Spanish language station, it would be "K-Piss" via translation.

Here's the winners post from 8/22/14 (almost a year ago), but he has yet to contact Los Buckeye Boyz for his prize. hmmmm.. perhaps he's in the Whack A Mouse witness protection plan and reluctant to be seen with two guys wearing fezzes?

Are the house rules like TPIR, closest to the actual retail price without going over, or are we playing this along the lines of throwing a hand grenade with closest to the target wins?

I’ll whack-a-mouse, Dr. A, and bid $1.4 mil for the mighty 1580.

An hour ride around Buckeye in the Gremlin will put more pollution in the air than what the EPA dumped in the Las Animas River a few weeks back. Meeting catfish (lower case "c") is right up there with meeting the Old Gringo...only difference is the former is not as verbose as the latter. Visitors are always welcome to drive the service road on the east side of the Crosscut Canal to see the Lumberyard transmitter site. However the hood is a changin' with upscale condos on what was formerly Paddock Pools and before that the Round Up Drive In Thee Ate Er. Now a miniature replica of the hot air fez tethered to the '76 Gremlin would certainly look good on anyone's mantel and add considerable value to their hut. Ha! Doc, you write a prescription for laughter that's better than anything offered over the counter. Unfortunately, my '01 Neon is nowhere near the stunning, eye catching, and trustworthy piece of machinery that the Gremlin is, and a result, any attempted trip to Buckeye, Arizona would conclude somewhere short of El Paso as the engine would likely break down from exhaustion, the mounts would give, and the result would be a spectacular show of sparks and flying oil for a good quarter mile along the fabulous stretch of Interstate Highway the gub'mint numbered "10".

May I donate my prize to KOOL Listener Lauren in hopes that even with all of the excitement that comes with cruising the hallowed streets of Buckeye in the fashion plate icon of American Motors, accompanied by two of the finest men to ever don a fez, she'll be kind enough to post pictures of the festivities online for each and every one of us to enjoy?

Who says we can't give back to the radiodiscussions.com family?

The FM side of that station was caught up in the bathroom for a long time, it seems. It went from KMEO to KPSN in, I believe, '91. Although they said it meant "Phoenix Sun," it was immediately nicknamed K-Pissin'. After it switched to 70's-based gold, it became KCHT only to switch to KHTC shortly afterward because too many people thought KCHT resembled the solid bathroom function!

Is land included? That may explain it.

And under that land there better be something of value (gold, oil, AZ Wrangler season tickets, etc) to justify that price! Imagine paying $1.4m for a station at the wrong end of the dial; zero cash flow; no measurable audience; and on Ancient Modulation.

YIKES!

As long as she signs a waiver not to get a Lerner & Rowe check to go after our wreck! We haven't heard a peep out of KOOL Listener Lauren or Lauren Reincarnated in quite a while. The Nurse and I wrote a memo to all Media Hut professors to clean out the staff refrigerator, but her PB&J sandwich is still there and has become petrified from lack of use. Darned impossible for use to determine whether she prefers Chunky or Creamy.
