More National Programming And Less Local At 104.9 The Horn (?)

I might not know the "big picture" or the final outcome of the new programming schedule at "104.9 The Horn" but here is what happened today on "104.9 The Horn".

The 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM (three hours) formerly filled by Alex Loeb (moved to the Longhorn Network) was replaced by one hour of local programming and two hours of national programming.

Monte Williams (local) was on from 10 AM to 11 AM (one hour) and said that he is only a temporary replacement for the week.

Mike Florio (national) came on at 11 AM and will probably end at 1 PM (two hours) if he fills in the rest of the time that Alex Loeb formerly had.

This is the name of Mike Florio's program:

Pro Football Talk (PFT) Live With Mike Florio NBC Sports

(I assume that this might be a financial decision due to "104.9 The Horn" receiving the University of Texas sports contract which will involve more local programming for UT games. That is only a guess.)

Or perhaps that the audience has been cut in half during the past year. The station now gets less than 1 share in the 12+, and that's not good. Maybe a statement about the UT season last year, but they need a boost from something.

Maybe a statement about the UT season last year, but they need a boost from something.

If I understand you correctly, you implied that a possible reason the station had less listeners over the year might be because of the poor/average season UT football had last year. That should not be an issue because "104.9 The Horn" did not have the UT contract last year. I think the contract starts this week. If you want to see if the poor/average season that UT football had last year might have influenced the ratings last year, you would have to look at "1300 The Zone" data since they are the station that had the contract last year and still held the contrat up to this week (or so).

I might have misunderstood your post but if I understood it correctly then the UT contract would not have any relation to the ratings for "104.9 The Horn" since they did not have the contract during that time.

Lets face it, there is only so much local sports one could talk about. Most time the syndicated hosts are more entertaining to listen too.

We might be over thinking this. With Alex going to The Longhorn Network, they might simply be exploring options at this point. It might really have nothing to do with ratings or revenue.

The reason that I mentioned the "local" vs. "national" part of the change in programming and that I was surprised that they had decreased local programming is because when they purchased the station Bob Cole made this statement:

In regards to the format, Cole told the Statesman that it will retain its local sports programming in mornings and afternoons, but other dayparts would be tweaked.

Maybe the plan has changed since they purchased the station?
