Wpts

I live 14 miles northwest line of sight from WPTS and they override WKPL here, I had the same problem with WPTS when they were on 98.5 overriding WESA 98.3.

You need a directional antenna, a better tuner or both. Due to FM capture ratio when there are two signals on the same freq the tuner will pick up the stronger and reject the weaker.

I understand that. My question how can a 17 watt radio station overrun a full power radio station 14 miles away. When they were on 98.5 they over ran a 6000 watt station on 98.3. Are they putting up more power
then licensed?

Power has nothing to do with it. I can over run a 50,000 watt signal with a 100 milliwatt signal. All it takes is to have the 100 milliwatt transmitter closer to the receiving antenna. The reason they over ran 98.3 when they were on 98.5 is that you were using a tuner with poor adjacent frequency rejection performance.

In 1969/1970 I did volunteer Engineering work at Then WPGH Carrier Current Radio. One Night The DJ got a 100 Watt Transmitter connected some coaxial cable to it through it out the Window of the Studio ,It Caused Interference to some Ham radio operators,One being the Chief Engineer of WWSM AM 970 Mr. Kiser, He called the Station and Nicely offered Engineering Help. After that anything Pertaining to Pitt Radio leaves a bad taste for me.

WPTS' antenna is on top of the Cathedral of Learning so their signal gets out pretty well (I was the GM of carrier current WPGH in 1979/80 and did some of the early work to create WPTS).
