Lumberyard 92~Seven

It's on the air now with wornout oldies, squished audio and edited jingles downplaying KAZG's 14~Forty dial position. A rather strange feed to the translator which results in a long delay between AM and FM programming. I'll have to keep an eye on Nurse Jeff so he doesn't swindle unsuspecting Media Hut students by guessing the next song to be played.

Only one question: Why is Mother Hubbard wasting a pretty good FM translator signal with a format that attracts listeners over the age of 60?

Just today I discovered 93.3 HD-2 signal appears to be a simulcast of KAZG 1440. The identifier used on-air is even KAZG 1440. Is 92.7 another simulcast? I tried receiving 92.7 at Warner & McClintock and it comes in very faint - just barely listenable.

Oh, and as a proud member of the over-70 demo - I am attracted to Oldies, big time. At last there is a reasonable replacement for KOOL-FM.

Technically, 92.7 is a KDKB translator, so it needs to be on KDKB HD2. The KOAI South Mountain translator is the same deal (KEXX HD2).

Oh really? The idea was 88.7 covered it more then 92.7's boomin 10 watts

92~Seven has a CP for 250 watts - 25 times the original power, and 4.8076923 times the pow-pow-power of Lumberyard 14~Forty at night. Just sayin'.

I imagined that would be the result as well, but 92.7 definitely came in clearer. Oh well. I wish 97.5 had stayed a dance-leaning station a couple years back (or whenever it was).

KEXX is apparently building a second 250 watt translator at 101.9. Says it will run their future HD3 audio. Looks like they will fire up a 3rd format.

I wonder what will become of the 101.9 that is broadcasting in the area of 24th St. and Indian School. It used to be Mayhem Radio broadcasting loops of Allstate commercials, but has since been taken over by a pirate is my guess.

The real challenge will be to make this thread approach the nearly-200 page one about the "Lamptimer."

It'll be a real challenge indeed. However the Lumberyard thread is just 18 pages away from 200 and closing in. It boggles the fezes of Los Buckeye Boyz to realize so many people like us delight in wasting time on that hapless Ancient Modulation station.

Which brings to mind a question....

I've been listening to 93.3 HD1 this past week and the only official station ID given is 1440 KAZG. Is that really legal (not that it matters to me and the other 3 or 4 listeners).

Sure enjoying the Oldies though.

Because Nurse Jeff and I are among the 99.9% of listeners WITHOUT HD radio, we're more confused than usual. We thought HD~One was KDKB and HD~Two was Lumberyard 14~Forty. The legal ID we've heard on 92~Seven is for KAZG, Scottsdale and KDKB HD~Two, Mesa-Phoenix. Have we heard K224CJ mentioned? Can't say either way as only the Old Gringo has the knowledge to sort all of this out. Way beyond our pay grade!

DE may be able to shed some light indeed but here is what I have found:

KAZG 1440 is currently simulcasting on 92.7 (analog) and 93.3 (HD1). The 93.3 signal is much stronger at my location in S. Tempe although both are listenable. The HD signal does not drop out anywhere within the metro area that I have found so far.

LOVING THOSE OLDIES!!!!!
