The latest ratings show that WRIT has increased its ratings lead. There IS a market for Oldies in Milwaukee. Maybe other stations with strong signals (unlike WZTI) should take note.

I guess that's "radio speak". People in Milwaukee have called WRIT an Oldies station forever and still do today. But hey, why wouldn't 40 year old songs be called "oldies" by anyone but people in the radio business?

Within the industry, "oldies" means a gold pop based format focused on the 60's. "Classic Hits" means the same, but focused on the 70's and 80's.
Just as some AC stations have called themselves "lite rock" for listener promotion purposes does not mean that those stations are playing Whitesnake.
By the same token, some classic hits stations call themselves "oldies" stations on the air. It all depends on the image that the term has in each market and the heritage the station may have.
But agency buyers know one thing about true oldies stations: they don't buy them. That is why the stations that had moved into the 70's and then into the 80's don't call themselves "oldies" in sales presentations.
