Cumulus' new CEO scrapping Nash

What are the chances Cumulus bringing back The Vibe branding but under the new Classic Hip-Hop fad format? Me thinks that will happen.

Well, that's a bummer but probably the smart move. Might as well stick with this albatross and hope they can turn it around since they've probably eroded a lot of goodwill in flipping certain stations. I know that despite WZRR's abysmal ratings some still were upset to see it go CHR, then from CHR to country I don't think anyone noticed.

And down here on the coast, WXBM was a fairly well rated and very well liked Pensacola station, but the ratings seem to tell a different story. They were a 6.8 in the spring 14 12+, and as of spring 15 they are a 4.2, dropping from second place to fourth in the ratings.

Of course as the pros here always say, the 12+ never tells the whole story, but I don't see how they could sow a silk purse from that sow's ear. They generated no small amount of anger from the change, going from a real live and local country outlet to canned NASH crap here.

Has NASH or NASH Icons done well anywhere?

Cumulus has flipped several stations recently to classic hip-hop with the "Vibe" branding. I don't see it happening here, however. The market is already saturated with urban...with JAMZ and "The Beat 104.1", and for urban AC, we have "Kiss", "Hot 107.7" and "B 106.5".

By my count, there are 26 full-power and low-power commercial FM signals in Birmingham. Of those 26, only eight (96.5, 97.3, 97.7, 98.3, 103.1, 103.7, 106.9, and 107.3) of them have unique formats. Ratings-wise, the only consistently successful stations among these are 103-7 the Q and 106-9 the Eagle. Truth is, I don't know that either of these stations would be vulnerable to a new competitor, especially since the Eagle essentially drove Rock 99 out of the format, and the Vibe didn't present a serious challenge to the Q.

Would a full-market Classic Hits station be successful? The Peach has a fairly loyal audience, but its signal doesn't cover the northern and western sides of the market very well. Hot AC has been tried twice by 94.5 and not done well in either incarnation, but I don't know how well it really was done.

How about something that hasn't been tried in many markets: an 80's-90's focused classic hits station. Yeah, it would be a musical mish-mash, but would it be very different than the iPod of a 30-50 year old? Just wondering...

I'd love to se Rock 995 come back, but this time as Rock, and take on vulcan, 100kw would surely have an upper hand on 250w

WNSH in New York is only local from 10AM to 7PM. Unless you are a diehard fan, listening to interviews with country artists gets to be a bit much. I wish WNSH would have a local morning show. It seems branding these stations Nash and Nash Icon squeeze any local feel to the station. I know many Nash branded stations do run local shows, but it all sounds too slick. I know it's comparing apples to oranges, but WHN and later WYNY sounded so much better. Personalities who knew New York and talked to the listeners and live and local 24/7. Yes, I know it's a different time and stations want to save bucks, but WNSH is so inferior to it's predecessors,

Nash Icon should stick to playing the older songs and not mix in stuff from the last five years. I'd prefer 60's and 70's country in the mix,but I suppose Nash icon is focusing on the the 80's onward.

Two of the Top 5 stations in NYC, Z-100 and WBLS, run syndicated morning shows, so it's obvious that localism doesn't matter to most area listeners.

Elvis Duran's show is based in New York and is New York-centric. Blair Gardner's show is out of Nashville, I'm sure the WNSH AM ratings aren't great. Of course Howard Stern was the one who proved syndication could work, but that's another story.

What about Steve Harvey on WBLS? Isn't he in LA? He gets great ratings in DC too.

WYNY typically got a 2 share, which is about what NASH gets. I doubt this station will get better ratings with the morning show in NYC.
