Back To The Future For 15~Eighty

The outfit that paid way too much for KMIK 15~Eighty has applied for KHEP call letters. Old Gringos (and Gringas) remember those calls as the Valley's original Classical Music station on 12~Eighty and 101~Five, the latter becoming KONC aka "Concert". 12~Eighty evolved into a brokered religious station (now KXEG), which no doubt is why the KHEP calls have been chosen for 15~Eighty. It's deja vu all over again, right Yogi?

The KHEP sign is still on the 1280 transmitter shack. Don't forget that 1280 and 1580 are now somewhat related ventures. Perhaps they're going to move the sign?

It would make sense...far more people would see it off the Red Mtn Fwy than Indian School Road. Anyone know if the Mouse is back to 50kw at night since losing a stick?

Doubt it. The stick was still gone last time I drove by there, about a week ago.

$1,400,000/6 = $233,333.33 per stick Original sales price

$233,333.33 x 5 = $1,166,666.60 New damaged goods sales price

Los Buckeye Boyz saved the new owners over a 1/4 Million dollars! Call 1-800-AKJEF for all your brokerage and Singapore math needs.

IIRC, 1280 KHEP was always religious back then; when Grand Canyon Broadcasters sold the FM they kept their AM (which is one of the reasons the calls changed to KONC). I don't recall classical ever being on 1280.

Later, either EZ Communications or the owner before them of 101.5 bought 1230 from Family Life Radio when FLR got their non-comm AM and that's when those stations became sisters for a time. Around that time was when they raided all the old-timers from 1360 KLFF and started doing Music of Your Life as KMYL. I only know this because the only types of music that my father listens to are swing, jazz, and classical. So if there was a station that played it, I couldn't escape it... still can't. Now my job is to ensure that dad has a good enough antenna to pick up KBAQ at the house... that and make sure he doesn't try climbing ladders. Your balance isn't what it used to be after you hit 80.

Just have him tune to 8.4 OTA TV. You get pretty pictures with your Swing, Jazz and Classical music.

True, I noticed this today as I bought an HD antenna

There's no such thing as an "HD antenna." TV antennas are designed to work best on all VHF and UHF TV frequencies, regardless of whether the transmission is analog or digital, or whether we're talking about a $10 pair of rabbit ears (not recommended!), a Terk indoor antenna with a preamp, or an old-style log periodic for VHF with a UHF quad-bowtie/screen reflector.

RF is RF as far as the antenna is concerned, although directivity is highly desirable to eliminate multipath.
