Blue Bloods: Racist ?

O

Omnibus

Guest
I am a fan of CBS's " Blue Bloods" but I have noticed week after week that all the criminals the cops are pursuing are all Black or minorities. If the crime rate in NYC was a bad as portrayed in Blue Bloods why would anyone ever want to visit New York City. How about developing a line of stories about the thieves on Wall Street. That affects us more directly. Hope the NAACP takes notice of Blue Bloods racist plots.

There was an article back during the first season of the show where it was pointed out that the ethnicity of the police and the perpetrators portrayed on the show was carefully controlled to reflect reality. Since New York City (Manhattan and the boroughs) is over 60% ethnic and more than 40% foreign-born, the numbers would seem to explain the higher percentage of ethnic "perps" than one might have expected on, let's say, "Dragnet" 60 years ago.

The "thieves" on Wall Street are a) seldom prosecuted despite their persecution in the media and b) handled by agencies such as the FBI if charges are filed as investment fraud is nearly always a federal case.

Oh, and despite all the crimes portrayed back then on Dragnet, Disneyland managed to attract lots of tourists and Hollywood did likewise.

Your post is exaggerated and not grounded in reality.

I don't think crime is really as bad as any of the TV shows make it seem. Otherwise the shows wouldn't have enough crimes to be entertaining. I know "Scorpion" has brought us more end-of-the-world scenarios in just over a season than there have ver been in the history of the world.

It is said Jessica Fletcher's hometown had the highest murder rate anywhere.

Well, yeah - considering that almost all of the episodes in the first 5 (or so) seasons were in Cabot Cove, that's something like 130 murders in 4 years. A lot for a small town. IIRC, the writers wised up and had her travel, and spend time in NYC during the final seasons.

Let's face it - cop shows don't reflect reality. I've done ride-alongs with police in San Francisco - 90 percent of the time it involves either driving around or standing around. Most police work is as dull as dishwater.

Oh, I reviewed the last two episodes of this show.

Two weeks ago, the story line was about cops who wrongfully shot a Black college student.

This week there was a dual story line about mafiosi and an unsolved murder of a crime syndicate character and a mentally ill white girl who tried to stab her father and then hung herself.

Nothing racist, nothing that would not be the kind of thing NYC cops deal with regularly.

Wonder when Blue Bloods will run a true to life story about BAD COPS. Example: in Minnesota a BAD COP put 7 bullets into 16 year old returning from church because the 16 year old asked why he was stopped - on "cop cam". Cop has positioned his cruiser to blind oncoming cars with his brights; the kid called attention to it and was stopped. Next thing he was DEAD with 7 bullets in him. Can't wait for the next "Wolf" produced show BAD COPS...EVERYWHERE ! ! !

Correction: It was a Michigan Cop.

They ran one two weeks ago... a wrongful shooting.

Still no link. Michigan is larger than 75% of the world's countries.

I found the case anyway. Cop stops teen for violation. Teen shows attitude, refuses to produce driver license. Cop asks him to step out of the care where he becomes belligerent. Cop tases teen who resisted being cuffed. Teen gets up, attacks cop. Cop fires only when teen has him in a strangle hold.

Back to the subject: TV shows look for script ideas that reflect a variety of cases and situations, as that gets ratings. Otherwise, using another show as an example, "Chicago PD" would be totally about gang violence and related drug issues, and the perps would all be from Chicago's two main ethnic groups (and I don't mean Poles and Italians).
