New NPR Programming on WBFO

WBFO recently started running two new shows on middays.
THE TAKEAWAY and THE WORLD.

They are also running low key promos about membership and
not interrupting programming to solicit.
Some people complained about managements tone and demeanor last
time. Perhaps, they're trying a softer approach...
 
The different approach may help, but there are dark clouds on the horizon for talk radio, including NPR. But give NPR credit for researching the issues and facing them head on, rather than being in denial and giving away a thousand dollars each week like many commercial AM talk stations hoping to ward off the inevitable as they circle the drain.

Check the graphs, especially the block chart (#3), Total News/Talk numbers.

And some people wonder why Buffalo only commercial AM news-talk station is down two shares Persons 12+; not in the top 10, Persons 25-54 and struggling with Persons 35-54? It's not much of a surprise to many posters here. "Guns, guns, guns. Birthers, birthers, birthers. Benghazi, Benghazi, Benghazi." Totally irrelevant to listeners under 35... maybe listeners under 50 for that matter.
 
The thing NPR has in its hip pocket is the ability to shift focus from hard news to cultural reporting, with features like All Music Considered. They can easily bridge and bend the hard commercial formats, and provide a wider range of perspectives, not just in political opinion, but also music and the arts. This could become more attractive to younger listeners once that generation becomes more involved in the presentation.

Let's make some corrections to the false statement above. Commercial (not publicly funded) AM talk stations, along with FM stations, and AM stations that aren't talk stations, give away a thousand dollars, not each week, but four times a day. They do this quarterly contest, whether they are down two shares or up two shares.

For the safety of everyone on the road, lullabies and NPR should be banned from being played in vehicles. Too many people fall asleep while driving.
 
That's an even sadder commentary for WBEN. If they gave away all that cash last book and still went down two shares. Doesn't seem to be helping.

How one comes to the conclusion above is beyond me. They gave cash away last book, and the book before that, and even the one before that.

Obviously your chances of winning are almost none with over 100 stations and only 80 give aways.
 
Reasonable discourse and logic are alien concepts to folks like Dan.
He cannot comprehend NPR content, so he criticizes it.

Literacy skills in the USA are eroding. At least NPR still offers some
of us a safe harbour...
