How's that for a gimmick?

About equal to the inevitable crash of Pristine audio software. In that case, it's always live day!

In all seriousness, it seems like a pretty interesting idea. I'll certainly check it out. They must be confident that nothing will go wrong.

I think it's a cool gimmick. It works for TV shows - why not try it on radio?

Totally live-- jingles, commercials, everything-- must have a large studio.

They do - when the studios were built it was done to accommodate Bob Rivers' show.

You guys didn't dump that system yet? Oh wait, I forgot - this is the place with a board old enough to drink. :)

I like the creative thinking that is going on with this, however, it isn't so creative for some of us old-timers.

TV has done well with live, or almost live broadcasts in the past couple of decades. NBC's "Will & Grace" did atleast two live shows and both were winners. However, I wonder how this might translate to radio. With TV the attraction was that something would go horribly wrong and the actors would crack up, turning the show into a bloopers special, which audiences love. On radio, the jury is still out. And jingles? On KISW? Have they ever used jingles? I assume they are referring to commercial jingles, and if so, good luck on getting that Sleep Train whistle right on the mark! But again, is there any real interest in that?

So some of us over the age of AARP membership this novel idea is nothing new. Hell, this WAS radio up until about 1990 or so, perhaps without the live commercials and jingles...you would be hard pressed to find many who remember that style of radio. So the question comes down to this: Was radio better when it was actually live, and jocks made mistakes, and jingles were blown, and dead air was common because Michael Mitchell (fictional) was talking to a groupie on the phone?

Yep.

Now days its automation hickups or routers (audio or data) that causes dead air. Then there is that pesky LPFM out here on Vashon I helped start. You name it they have done it. Adding a strobe to a silence sensor has helped a lot. Getting them not to open browser windows on the automation computer playing an ad. Uhm working on that one. Thank goodness it wasn't a porn ad, they did get bonus points for figuring it out, actually the co host figured it out. VoV is live from 8am to 11am.

That's a simple fix. Block internet access on the web browser, lock down the settings and get a dedicated listener to donate a separate studio PC for surfing.
