WSPQ 1330AM TRANSMITTER ISSUES Station Dead Forever?

Friday AM, WSPQ in Springville had a major transmitter failure and the owners are thinking about never bringing it back due to costs vs. return. The station is 1KW day & night with different DA patterns for each. It is well liked for the "Classic Hits 50s-80s" format by people in the area, but it may just be a memory now. Time will tell.

Plus staffing, engineering, antenna site, utilities, lawyers, accountants, etc. Nice hobby project if you can do most of that yourself, however.

I'm talking about the current owners crowdfunding a new transmitter. They ought to be able to get a 1KW AM for around $5K.

Word is two Buffalo sales guys looked at 1330 WSPQ (when it was Flag Wavin' Country) years ago, but passed on it. The real estate may be worth more than the license. Springville is served by clearly heard signals from Buffalo and Olean, whose country Big Pig (95.7 WPIG) is a local favorite. There's not a lot of revenue from local Springville businesses to sustain a 1kw highly directional three tower AM. It may be worth something to the present owners if they donated the station to the high school, which many years ago operated a ten watt FM but turned in the license. Considering the demands on school budgets these day, the high school probably wouldn't want it. Time to turn in the license, take a tax write off and sell the land to a developer?

I listened to 1330 WSPQ this weekend and it was up and running.

Off the air again. Storms came thru Saturday and the station went silent again but the transmitter was still on until sometime today. Something must of got fried. No info on their Facebook or web page. They don't stream their station so not sure if issue is at studio or lost DSL link to transmitter. My guess would be the computer that runs Onair ADs and music.
