NASH DEAD - Welcome Back Kix 96

From Country Aircheck

Cumulus WJCL/Savannah, GA dropped the "Nash FM" branding yesterday (12/3) and returned to "Kix 96." The station had carried the "Kix" moniker from the early '90s until 2013, when it joined the Nash rollout (CAT 9/6/13). Cumulus SVP/Content & Programming Mike McVay tells Country Aircheck the station will still be "powered by Nash," and will retain America's Morning Show, Nash Nights Live and other branded programming. "They are a heritage radio station with heritage call letters," he says. "We just want to make sure everybody understands it is that station that's been there forever."

No Nash, probably means no Nash Icon soon too. There were already rumblings about Nash Icon becoming Z102 once again. It would definateley fit the pattern

Yeah, I'm surprised it hasn't flipped yet. The Z102 rumor started with I heart media after they bought rights to several websites. I do think the station will flip and if they are smart, they will go in an alternative direction. I'm convinced that would be the best option simply because of the coverage area including areas that Rock 106 doesn't even reach. Top 40 would be a possible move but remember, Kiss took them out once before and then, there wasn't a rythmic/CHR in Savannah so it would be difficult for a top 40 cumulus to really set itself apart from a iheart media top 40. Note that many of the cumulus stations across the country are releasing an alternative brand after the success of the Chicago alternative station. No, Savannah is not Chicago but this format is being released in smaller cities as well. I have to think that SCAD, GSU, and to an extent, Fort Stewart will help support this sorta format.
