McConnell in the Mornings...

I have tuned my dial to 700 early and given Mike a listen over the last couple of weeks. He always sounds good but the Jim Scott format is not letting him do what he does best...take calls and interact with the public. Has anyone else noticed that he sounds confined?? I wish that he were back on mid mornings and he could do his famous night before Christmas segment, current events and take calls from his cast of characters (Sensible Don et al) Thoughts, anyone???

It's more "Mike" than it was at the outset, but obviously not the midday format. I usually turn on the 7am hour and he does give his take on things between the elements (some, but not all, of the features have seemingly been curtailed). Maybe at some point the 8-9 hour can be more talk.

That's a good idea. Kind of quasi features and quasi talk/topical. A later time slot would probably suit him better too. Who wants to be up at 3 am reading headlines?

I'd move McConnell back to middays then move Scott Sloan back to 9 to midnight. I hate to say it but, Rocky Boiman is horrible. Maybe They could hire someone new for mornings although I doubt it would happen.

Anything is possible. How about John Phillips in the morning and a Best Of Burbank for afternoons?

From everything I've heard, McConnell's ratings in the morning are fine, as are Fingers and Jones-and no, they aren't going to put Burbank reruns on afternoon drive.

Yep, Mike is a pro and will always draw an audience. I think if they let him do talk 8-9, he'll do a great job with it.

I don't really want to go negative out here...as I see radio as a brotherhood. I will say that I always respected Burbank. As silly and goofy and off the wall as he could be...he never (to my recollection) ventured into the profane to get laughs.

Burbank was always a class act, from the first time I heard him on CKLW to the end of his run on WLW. I still follow him on Facebook as himself and his Earl Pitts page.

Hey he may be a little constricted with all that morning stuff, but right now he is the best we have in Cincinnati. He's got the pipes and the personality plus he is living the dream.....how many imagined morning drive at WLW when we were all younger ?

I will tell you that I briefly heard Sensible Don. When I heard him mention his choice of Pres. candidate made me think over the years he breathed in too much bus exhaust fumes.

When I look back through the years and think about all of the great programming and talented people who started here or who became famous here or who spent their entire careers here...it makes you wonder....how do we get back to those glory days???

Yeah - Boiman just started the nite slot and not there 1/2 the time also.
