Gainesville-Ocala Fall Ratings

The Fall ratings are posted at Radio Online:

http://ratings.****************/cgi-bin/rol.exe/arb550

No real surprises. All the local groups are posted for a change. Gold 99 is missing and suppose it would have ranked well.

I'm a little surprised to see WTRS has dropped quite a bit from where it once ranked although WMFQ has made a significant gain since flipping to CHR sometime ago. WRUF-FM seems to be making improvements as well.

Gold 99 did VERY VERY well.

My guess is that Dix dropped Eastlan Ratings in favor of Nielsen, and that is why they now show.

What kind of money would Gold have to pony up so we, and more importantly Golds advertisers, could see how "VERY VERY well" they did!?!?

I find it astounding that WYKS tied with WKTK. That means they pulled amazing numbers out of Gainesville since they don't reach Ocala. And it's not the first time they've been in the running for 4th place. Good job Gillen. Not so good for Entercom.

The advertisers who use ratings, namely the agencies, do get the numbers.

David,

In order to get Local Automotive Dealer Money, you have to get in their face with numbers. Local Car Dealers often have an "Agency" which is some yahoo sitting in their condo on the beach in Tampa or Ft. Lauderdale sipping mimosas each morning doing the buys. Sometimes they don't even look over the books for over a year and put their buys on cruise control.

I have seen this in Medium Markets as well. I remember some years ago I approached a large Ford Dealer in Orlando, and they referred me to their "Agency." My meeting was at a person's house on their back porch in Sarasota.

It looks like my post got deleted but the Eastlan ratings for Fall are at All Access. I included a link which I guess is a no no.

I don't know how much longer Eastlan will be conducting surveys in the Ocala Market. It looks like Dix, their only subscriber in the market, jumped ship and is now with Nielsen.

The Fall Eastlan ratings are posted at All Access. Not sure if a link will work since you have to register.

89.1 is fourth and Gold 99 is in the top ten.

The link does not work unless you register.

Gold 99 is trending down sharply over 4 rating periods. Hopefully the discontinuance of Westwood One adult standards satellite programming and a change to programming it themselves will help them generate a salable audience. Big numbers but few agencies or large advertisers even look at a 55+ format like Westwood was supplying. Despite what Westwood may have claimed, that format had a median listener age of over 70 in markets where detailed ratings were available. When half of your listeners are over 70, making any money will be a challenge even if they have big numbers.

They may actually have a better chance with smaller numbers but more younger people in the mix. However, if they do not subscribe none of that matters much anyway. If you can't justify buying the numbers when they are that good, it speaks volumes about the format and who it reaches.
