In engineering news: KNBQ

Right after we play Chipmunks Christmas music 1,000 hours in a row. Don't tell anyone, but St. Patricks Day music starts soon.

The big question (and the 800 lb white elephant in the corner of this discussion board) is:

How will Kokomo fit into all this?

I have a bad fever after returning back from D.C. this weekend. My doc said the only cure is more Kokomo.

Sorry, Bill :)

Maybe rename KNBQ to "Seasons 98.5"? Different music for every season. For example, play love songs next month!

You know I kind of like that idea. The problem is, what would you play between March and July? There's really no music that would fit that format, unless patriotic music was started around Memorial day. Even then, there's still a couple months where there's no seasonal music, then from the fourth until mid-November.

Easy one:
March - Irish music (St Patrick's Day)
April - Easter music (self explanatory)
May - Mexican music (Cinco de Mayo)
June - Beach Boys/surf music (school's out)

And "School's Out for Summer" Alice Cooper 3x/day during June!

Dialing through my home stereo presets here in Renton. Wait, that is Little Drummer Boy playing on the Ocean 98.5. A joke? Oh right...North Pole Radio! Coming in fairly good. Maybe a little scratchy. Now what happens?

So no sign of a permanent format soon? K-Mart is already airing Christmas ads on TV. And our location is going out of business before Christmas!

And what is wrong with being in the Christmas spirit year-round???

Last I saw, KNBQ was moving to Capitol peak. That's probably why you can hear them now.

This must have just happened, they were off the air when I was down that way last weekend. Meanwhile, in other south sound news, KRXY has launched an hd3 to translator as Feel Good Country 92.9.

KOMO is on 98.5 now. No more Christmas music? Or a foul up at the transmitter?

My guess is some work was done to cut the signal from the current studios of 98.5 and they wanted something on the air to test the signal -- many transmitter shacks have both a component AM/FM tuner for monitoring and an audio board patched into the transmitter. Not difficult to set that equipment up to simulcast 97.7...

Perhaps its permanent...doubtful, but it would be a bit more appropriate for KOMO's original goal of having a South Sound repeater for their AM. My guess is the LMA for 98.5 would be a bit cheaper than 97.7.

Put 97.7 on with a new format and put KOMO on 98.5 -- the main places in Puget Sound that lose out on reception already have a solid signal from AM 1000.

My only question is: what would work on 98.5? In the past year, the Olympia media "market" has exploded with KMAS, and a few HD translators from KRXY. Pretty much any format short of oldies or punk rock will have at least one city-grade signaled alternative from either Olympia or Seattle.

I was listening to 98.5 at 4pm. No Id's for KNBQ. They Id as KOMO am and KOMO fm Oakville, no mention of Central Park. Unless it's a huge spur from 97.7 I don't think they are Iding it properly.
