The Beauty Pageant: Holiday 2015

The holidays bring us the annual 10 share from KODA, this near being no exception, but have a look-see at KROI. That is Boomin' right on down into all news territory now. The shine has definitely worn off. Also keeping in the spirit of Radio One showings, The Box is off by nearly a share and finding itself in unfamiliar territory. Not often does 97-9 dip this low, I wonder what's dragging it down?

As always, for entertainment purposes only. Released 01-19-2016:

And for our friends in the Triangle:

Ol' Beaumont still gets measured every once in awhile, lol.

The Christmas music on KODA always distorts the ratings at this time of year. Some notable drops on KKBQ and KBXX. But why the big loss for KLTN?

KUHF still a solid player for a non-comm. But sister KUHA has never recovered from the antenna problems last summer; its numbers have been half of what they used to be. Also the impending sale (announced five months ago, any news on that???) may have convinced some of the audience to listen elsewhere.

Boom has turned into a thud, but I think it will stick around for a while longer. I think they are in the "tweak the format" stage instead of the "blow it up" mode.

We'll have more realistic numbers a month from now.

In Beaumont, Cumulus has a problem with KAYD. They've had issues ever since moving from 97.5 to 101.7 with less coverage. Not sure what format would be left for them to try. Perhaps they'll just dispose of this asset.

What does KROI do now? The novelty has worn off the Boom and while costs are less than for a news organization the ratings have to be disappointing.

Alt 101-7, Stan. Southeast Texas's new rock alternative. An "alternative" on the dial to the Big Dog. It wouldn't be the first to drop Nash for Alt, so you never know. I imagine Cumulus focus remains honed in on keeping Magic #1 in the market. 101-7 is an afterthought. That was made glaringly apparent when the longstanding "KD" brand was discarded for Nash. As you so aptly noted, there's no chance of ever taking down KYKR with the smaller signal from Silsbee, when KYKR covers the entire Triangle and then some.

La Mejor stealing listeners, you say. Maybe a few inside the Loop, but not enough to claim that effort is indicative of KLTN's loss. Those shares lost to KLTN should show up in the ratings as "KTBZ-FMHD2" if those listeners had gone to La Mejor. There is no listing of 94-5's secondary channel, and iHeart is a regular subscriber to the 6+ PPM listings, so La Mejor had no effect on 102-9 apparently.

Those listeners went somewhere though, just not sure where.

Not just in Houston, but nationally, this format suffers from a weak concept.

People post song lists all the time, asking if it would make a good radio format. This is an example of what happens to that song list after a few months.

Boom the 2 reasons why there ratings sucks 50% to 60% of area Houston area can not pickup the station with a decent listenable signal and they play way to much new york rap like 70% of the playlist in new work rap. They should add like 100 to 200 Houston and down south rap tracks to the play list this would help the ratings some.

KLTN is traditionally lower in the Holiday PPM as that is when Raúl Brindis (and the other personalities) are on vacation... so the TSL will decline. Since the Holiday book is not used to buy advertising, there is no loss.

Also, the total market share for all Spanish language stations was off by nearly 2 points. That is season-related, too.

KTBZ-HD2 shows in the subscriber books at around a 0.8 in 18-49. That's the level it has been at since a week after it signed on. There is no correlation with KLTN's numbers as La Mejor did not increase in the Holiday book.
