I don't get it

I wish the tv boards were as active as this one.. I'm wondering if anyone can explain something for me .. How is it possible that in some markets two tv stations can have the same physical channel for example in Beaumont they have 2 channel 6 and like 4 channel 12 . How does that work? Please at least help me find a answer before I get moved to the tv board that no one looks at.

Rage is right. That is to say, a TV station can broadcast multiple channels with their digital signal, kind of like FM HD radio.
I guess one city can have two different stations on the same channel, if they're across town.

It sounds like confusion surrounding the use of virtual channel numbers. Basically, digital broadcasters can send the signal on one channel number, say 25 but your TV is programmed to show it as 26. For example, in Beaumont, there is channel 12 that has 12.1, 12.3, 12.3, and 12.4. There is another station on a different channels, 27, but your TV will show it as 12.5 and 12.6 because it is programmed that way. The effect is the recognition of channel 12 being associated with the channel number instead of one that no one has heard about. I hope this helps.

This doesn't answer your question but I look at the Houston Tv Board daily but there's just not enough things happening in Houston tv to talk about.

Oh, things happen. The problem is that the time it would take to keep track of all the changes to these low power subchannels would be exhausting. Then, given the demographic of this website, you have to ask yourself whether or not it's worth posting something no one really cares about anyway.

I'll give you an example. KUGB 28.4 recently changed from Distinction TV to Lift Television.

Now, watch how many responses that gets, mrtejano.

12.5 and 12.6 are carried on two LDs...36 and 43...not 27 which is KAOB and has 6 channels of its own.

Channel 6 is not on 6 anyway...its on 25....4 is on 40.....12 IS on 12.....and if you watched 2, you would see 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3.....same with 8, 11 and 13....and LP 21!!

It happens in every market...

I don't think I'm making my self clear and I'm not getting the answer I was looking for. Example CBS in Beaumont Is channel 6.1 then what channel is kips-ld

KFDM does not operate on digital channel 6. Only KVVV-LD Houston's sister facility KIPS-LD operates on channel 6 in the Triangle. KFDM operates on digital channel 25. There's also another sister, KOPS-LD Beaumont, which operates on digital channel 50.

Edit to add: ah, it just clicked. He wants to know the virtual channel for KIPS-LD, since KFDM uses virtual 6.1. I don't know, latino. Stan or CW are the only two here that live over there and could answer what virtual channel KIPS maps to. I tried looking it up and everything I saw shows the actual channel 6, nothing regarding what channel actually appears on screen.
