WJIB, WROL, WILD all file for 106.1

I realize the article attached says 106.1, but looking at the FCC forms... is WJIB aiming for 101.3 instead?

Regarding the WROL vs. WILD proposals... is there a specific way that the FCC decides who gets it? Looks like the WILD proposal uses the Pru, and puts out the better of the two signals (which seems particularly interesting, with 105.7 WROR and 106.7 WMJX at the same site). WROL's signal is much more limited, using the 17-story building at 1 Memorial Drive in Cambridge.

Right.
If you look at the date at the top entry, you see that that is a new application, entered yesterday, amending the desired frequency (106.1 => 101.3)—heh, but first the unlicensed (read: PIRATE) “Big City–101.3” needs to be booted from the frequency....Do you think they may have the unmitigated GALL to claim squatterʼs rights? ;)
The WJIB map points to his translator in Maine.
If you pull out in all three maps, you see that each map has two pins, one for the ownerʼs current station (98.3, in Bobʼs case), and one for the applied one.

Me bad here, I didn't notice that Bob is moving his own translator from Maine to Boston where it is obviously more valuable. 101.3 was used by 101.7 when they were at lower power from Medford. Now that they are at higher power (from Medford, again) I did wonder if 101.3 is still a viable frequency until I read Scott's engineering study. Yes, "Big City 101.3" will have to pack their bags and move on -- I hope the end result of all this is we have WJIB back on FM again!

250 watts on 101.3 from Cambridge should do a nice job in greater Boston. There is a construction permit that expires in March for W279BQ on 103.7 for 10 watts from the top of the Pru. Who is actually going to hear that?

106.1 could work depending on where the TX site and power wind up. I believe there is/was a pirate there as well.

Right, and WROL is actually seeking the 98.7 xltr up in Lincoln ME.

Soooo this leaves WROL and WILD to fight it out for 106.1, unless one of them files a change to 101.3 to go MX with Bob. If they can do that this could be a real mess....

That 17-story building is right around the corner and across the street from the TX site of 88.1 WMBR and W242AA-FM 96.3 MHz (5 watts towards Beacon Hill). Things are getting RF-congested in Cambridge..

Fybush says Bittner is indeed filing for a translator on 101.3 (NERW at fybush.com Tue update on translators)

>>101.3 was used by 101.7

Would getting an FM translator mean changes to a more mass-appeal format for the winner? Probably the Chinese government would love to be on FM so WILD will do what its puppet masters want it to do and not change a thing, but how about WROL?

Wrong. the FM Translator would be much more valuable to Radio One doing a (somewhat) mass appeal format on FM than doing brokered time.

Also, there is some evidence that China Radio International is showing some fatigue in the purchase of time on American radio stations.

Pirate Touch FM was indeed silenced by the FCC in April of 2014

Fybush noted at the time that Charles Clemons running his operation as a pirate
hurt him--since he could have done things legally and just then the LPFM window was
opening:

>> *Clemons could have leased time on (or bought) any of several AMs that are struggling to find an audience. The relatively new WZBR (1410 Dedham), for instance, nicely serves the neighborhoods Touch reached. As a licensed operator, Clemons could then have used his political pull to argue for an FM translator, and he might just have won.

I hope WILD will not get the FM translator because unless they change their format back to the Soul format, people will end up being brainwashed.

Yet you apparently have no worry about the current slew of right-wing talkers engaged in exactly the same type of propaganda, who have been pounding at their collective agenda for over 20 years now.

Guess what: People can actually make up their own minds, any propaganda notwithstanding. In addition, we have this little annoyance known as the First Amendment, which provides no exceptions for Chinese propaganda on the radio.

well since WZBR 1410 is doing classic soul/r&b now, theres probably zero chance of that flip back

Change just filed on the WROL application... to get out of the way of WILD's 106.1 FM application, they're now looking to use 100.3 FM.
