92.1 ktsr

Why is KTSR 92.1 in Lake Charles running at low power? They have been like that for almost a month now and sometimes I can hear KROI from Houston. Are they having problems with their transmitter.

...and here I thought someone wanted to wax nostalgic over College Station's old rock station. First I've heard about KTSR in years.

Back in the era from 1984 to 1987, 92.1 was KTAW, the Top 40 FM (leaning a bit more toward the rock side) to WTAW 1150 which was Country. I was music director and afternoon drive in those days when we called the station Maximum Hits 92K. We had great PDs, a great owner and both stations did well. They sold the stations and I figured a format change and new air staff was on the way, so I found another gig and 8 days after I started the new job the format changed to a more AC feel using the handle "Star".

Back then, we loved the days between semesters at A&M. Those few days the log was extremely light, usually 1 spot break an hour, but by time the students began showing up the commercial load went nuts for a couple of weeks. Even the overnights had a couple of breaks every hour for 24 hour businesses. Then again, there were only 6 stations in the market with the newest, "Kiss 105" as our direct competitor although KTAM was a Top 40 AM at the time.

I would be surprised if KTSR stays in the current format for very long. I suspect Hot will encroach on KTSR's ratings and will get pushed in the corner against KSMB (much better station IMO), KKMY, and to a lesser extent, KQXY.

There seems to be a gaping hole for some form of AC. KTSR's 'in town' signal would be perfect for an 'at work' station for the lake area. Warm was just a bad attempt and an awful name.
