If you ever saw the "60 Minutes" interview, he was a great guy. Not at all like I would have pictured.

I don't share his conservative opinions, but Cal Thomas has said he has friends he doesn't agree with.

By all accounts, he was a friend to anyone who knew him, regardless of politics or views of the law and Constitution. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg was not only his polar opposite on the court, but was also one of his closest friends. That alone says something about how political figures should get along, even though they vehemently disagree on the issues. Unfortuantely, too many of them refuse to listen.
 
I don't think most politicians know each other, let alone become friendly. I feel like one of the Republican debate questions this cycle was "name a Democrat you like in Washington" and I think all 81 of them demurred.
