Trautmann Upped at Cumulus While Kline to Depart

The Winds of Change

The Bullet has been administered to Mr Kline over at The Cloud Company. Conrad Trautman is the new EVP of things technical. This was done with such grace and beauty that Ms Berner has been awarded both ears and the tail.

Wonder if things will change drastically?? Kline was known to lock down processors at stations to where he only has access to them via the corp network and the local CE did not....
Need to check with my friends at the Cloud to see........
This could be a good thing....or not so good......time will tell

Certainly respect for the position will increase greatly both among Cloud Company employees, vendors, and the industry as a whole. I'd expect him to provide guidance and support for any reasonable requests, within his authority and resources to grant; and to give a good ear and much support to his people in the field. He'll look out for them, a welcome change.
It's a win-win, whether it will be sufficient to drag the company out of the mire remains to be seen.

The bigger battle will be if Trautmann can control ballooning engineering costs at the former ABC properties. So far, they seem to have had a blank check.

I don't think a lot of 'pie in the sky' will get approved - if it ever was.

This also seems to be a problem at former CBS stations, where the staff is used to one way of doing things. They really haven't integrated physical plants in cost-efficient ways yet. It took CBS Radio in NYC years to move into a single facility. For Cumulus, I see that the head of Real Estate will now report to Trautmann, so perhaps they can now begin integration. But it won't be cheap or easy, but it's necessary for long-term financial viability.

Past experience tells me this will be well thought out and economic. I suspect those who are unwilling to follow the program will be counseled to do so; and those who still don't follow will be history. If the Cloud Company doesn't show some serious moves toward profitability in the short term, there ain't gonna be any long term.
