Knoxville radio testing your knowledge

I see Johnny Pirkle owns WNFZ in knoxville and there is an MLA with Oak Ridge FM Inc.

My question is this, who are the decision makers for this group? Who is the PD? Operations manager? Who makes the hiring call?
Thanks in advance.

I would imagine Johnny or Jonathan makes the decisions. NFZ is part of Oak Ridge FM and has been for probably over 20 years. All decisions concerning programming are probably made by Jonathan. He is probably the PD, MD and OM all into one. Don't know for sure but that is how it was in 1994 and I assume not much has changed they pretty much had control of WOKI and WNFZ back then.

I've been curious as to what Pirkle will do with that 101.5 translator they own now. It would work well as an FM outlet for a potential 94.3 HD2.

Jonathan is VP of the group and currently the GM of WNFZ. I hear he's also handling the programming until he can find someone who has the ability to take those reigns.

I did see on the FCC web site that the 101.5 translator has a CP to drop power to about 10 watts and relocate to west Knoxville.

Im not real familiar with translators but 10 watts sounds like peanuts when a fairly strong signal penetrates the market on that frequency

10 watts in West Knoxville would give you very limited coverage - even on a tall tower. No problem at all getting Johnson City everywhere I am in East TN

From what ive found in jan 2016 fcc approved cp to go to 5 watts at wnfz tower and rebroadcast wkgn. Wkgn website makes no reference to any fm signal

The 101.5 translator was getting out pretty good when they were in Blount County. I don't know how much power they were running.
