Why is COX multi casting their FM stations on HD-2 or 3?

Why is COX multi casting their stations on one or another HD 2 or 3 channels? I can see KONO sports on HD-2 but not their same FM station that over rides it on FM. I would like to see one of them put KKYX on HD-2 or 3 if anything.
 
KCYY has KKYX on their HD2.
But I agree with you, they really should be original with more of their HD signals.

In Connecticut, their WPLR New Haven and WEZN Bridgeport never had anything but an HD1 with the main signal, while their WYBC New Haven has never bothered with HD. Looks like the chain really doesn't want to do anything with the technology.

I can't get KCYY HD which is strange I can get KONO HD fine.

Cox seems to only do anything with HD2's if it has a good reason to do so. Cox's KWEN HD2 in Tulsa has been running Christian contemporary for about six years now after dropping the format from a full-power station, and it recently started feeding a translator in the market. I understand Cox was feeding the WNGC combo's Atlanta translator via an HD2 as well. From what I understand, Cox was using some of its HD2's in Houston to cover for rimshot signals, and I hear some of the KKBQ HD bandwidth is being leased to other operators to feed translators.

When an operator relays stations with similar signals on HD multicast channels, it's usually the prelude to launching a multicast channel. So, it's possible Cox will either be feeding translators soon or will be leasing bandwidth to others.
